QF awards with AA miles. Is there a trick?
Hi,
I’ve found some availability on QF flights in C class, QF says available, Expert Flyer says available. but AA.com says no. I called AA thinking it could just not be available online but they couldn’t see it either and I called twice. Is there any trick to actually getting this booked? It’s 10 months away so should be within the AA window.
thanks!
Simon
Hi Simon,
Are you seeing “U” space for the Qantas flights? That’s the fare bucket used for partner award inventory. You could verify space on the BA or JAL sites as well.
Try calling a different AA office, like in Australia or something. AAgents in the US call centers couldnt see EY space but calling the center in Australia worked so it could be a similar issue.
Have you also checked for the award space on JAL or BA to verify?
Also see if it shows up on an Alaska search.
Alaska’s online award search doesnt include results for CX (and LAN)
True, but they do show Qantas

Thanks all for your responses. Yes i’m looking at the U bucket. QF site says available as does expert flyer. BA didn’t have anything and haven’t been able to get into the JAL site (yet) to check there. I called AA both times from Australia – once I was sure they diverted the call to the US, the other time I didn’t think so. But in both cases they couldn’t see anything.
Does QF release different availability to partners? I know the whole QF opens up earlier for their own site than the 330 day mark but we’re at around 300 days at the moment.
thanks!
Simon
I think ExpertFlyer might scrape from Qantas, which is why those results match. If BA didn’t show anything either, it could still be phantom space.
Thanks. I guess it kind of defeats the purpose of Expert Flyer if I can’t use that info to book using AA miles 🙁
