No advance seat selection option for JL flight marketed by AA

No advance seat selection option for JL flight marketed by AA

    Hello!

I recently bought a cash Econ ticket between the US and Japan during a fare sale. On AA.com, I noted that it was an O fare, and that there was no price difference between AA operated flights and JL operated flights, I went ahead with the latter option.

Given that it was a code share, I didn’t find it strange that I couldn’t select seat during the check out process especially given that there was no obnoxious warning that AA provides for Basic Econ fares. Well, now I’m finding out that my tickets aren’t eligible for advanced seat assignment for the JL operated segments. Per the AA phone agents, N, G, and O fares on JL code shares don’t allow for it, and she confirmed that there is no information available on AA’s website regarding this. The only way, she says, to find out about potential future changes is by calling AA every time I want to book a ticket with a code share segment.

I was totally blindsided by this and am disappointed by the opacity (not that I’m surprised…). Does anyone know of other non-Basic Econ code share tickets being ineligible for advanced seat assignments?
