Marriot Rewards or Hilton Honors

Marriot Rewards or Hilton Honors

  1. user111 New Member

I have an Amex Platinum , and would like to somehow convert the points to BA or CX .
I can convert directly to Marriot Rewards , or to Hilton Honors . Hopefully , I can then convert those points to BA , CX , or others , if they can’t be done .
Which of these 2 ( Marriot Rewards or Hilton Honors ) would be best , to do this ?
    Thanks .

You should be able to transfer Amex’s Membership Rewards points directly to BA without the intermediary step of Hilton/Marriott. Ditto Cathay. Re: BA (and Aer Lingus and Iberia) until a couple of weeks ago there was a 40% bonus to do so. I used it to transfer some points for intra-Europe business class on BA (normally a waste, I know, but it was only 7750 Avios each way, and with the bonus….).

Thanks OCtinPHL . I’m new to this – as you surely gathered . I have an Israeli Amex Platinum , and the only options on the Converting Points to Airlines/Hotels page are Alitalia, Delta , Air France/KLM , Hilton Honors and SPG at Marriot Rewards . So , then how would I convert directly to BA , CX etc. ?

Aahhh… sorry about my incorrect answer. Or incomplete answer. I don’t know if Hilton Honors is the same for international members (clearly for international accounts Amex MR has different partners), but at least for North American members you can transfer Hilton points to both BA and CX. Look under My Points and then under More Ways to Use Points and finally Exchange Your Points. At least in NA Hilton points transfer at a 1:1 ratio, which is not good value (I think Lucky would agree. 😉 )

And I see your original question you weren’t asking ‘how” but rather “which is better?” I can’t speak as to Marriott, but right now Amex is offering a bonus to transfer MR points to Hilton. Again, maybe only in North America. And I still don’t know if it is a great value to convert MR points to Hilton points to BA Avios or Asia Miles…. but if you are never going to use the Amex points, then why not?

Thanks OCtinPHL for your all your help . Went to Hilton , and followed your exact instructions , and seems to be OK for BA , CX – thanks ! From what you’re saying , doesn’t sound especially exciting . Re the Marriot Rewards , you can’t do transfers like that ?

OCtinPHL , I went to https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/redeem/travel/points-to-miles.mi and they show a ration of 3:1 points for a mile . Hilton is better , I guess .
Re the Marriot Rewards , you can’t do transfers like that ?
I don’t know about Marriott… I think (??) I used to have an account with Marriott (never an elite) and the last time I stayed at Marriott property was 10+ years ago… I just don’t know if you can transfer.

As far as “exciting”? Well, that’s up to you. I would rather spend my Amex points directly on airfare, through Amex, than lose value transfering to Hilton and then to CX or BA. But if you have no other way to use the points, then using Hilton or Marriott may be the way to go.

OK, my bad. Must put glasses on… I was just skimming the Hilton transfers page. It is 10,000 to 1,000. Absolutely horrible! I knew it was a bad deal… I just wasn’t thinking when I posted 1:1. (Which wouldn’t be that bad.) Go with Marriott. 🙂

Thanks OCtinPHL – looks like Marriot is my only option .
