Invalid AA award routing

Invalid AA award routing

I was trying to fly from North America (East Coast) to Australia (Oceania) via Doha, on Qatar. According to an AAdvantage supervisor, this is considered traveling via Asia (or wherever they think Doha is) – so instead of charging 80K miles in Biz, they were attempting to charge me 150K (80K + 70K). What else can I do?

The agent was correct; there are no third-region routing exceptions for US > Australia, so it would price as two awards. https://onemileatatime.com/how-to-use-american-airlines-miles/

Unless you find space on AA/QF flights between the US and Australia, you’re going to have to book it as two awards via Asia or the Middle East.
