Howdy –

I am on a paid J ticket LHR – JFK next weekend, one of the last flights out that evening. I booked through BA, operated by American.

BA wants $500 to get on an earlier flight, for that price I’ll just relax in the airport for my 6 1/2 hour layover and save the money.

However, does anyone have any experience with requesting to go standby by asking at the lounge/gate? Wondering if anyone has been successful in practice, and has any tips.

I’m oneworld ruby, if that would make a difference?

Not sure what other options you have since your flight was marketed by BA, operated by AA.

maybe call an AA agent with your PNR and see what they can offer?

Even if you don’t get any love from the phone agent it doesn’t hurt to go to the gate our lounge and ask nicely. Sometimes they can do wonders!
