Individual Segments of United Award Available, but Entire Award Isn’t

Individual Segments of United Award Available, but Entire Award Isn’t

I’m trying to book a United Award with a couple of of specific flights in 1st class: Tokyo Narita to Bangkok in Thai A380 First, and Bangkok to Sydney in Thai 747 First. Each of the individual NRT => BKK, and BKK => SYD awards show on my travel dates, but the flight combo doesn’t show when I search for the NRT => SYD award. (The layover in Bangkok is shorter than 24 hours)

If I call United, should I expect that they’ll be able, and willing to ticket the NRT => SYD award? Am I breaking a routing rule I’m not aware of? I’m planning to transfer Chase UR points for the award, so I was hoping to be as confident as possible that it’ll be ticketed after I transfer the points!

@wilve this is the frustrating part of the changes to UA search engine. First of all call as this is a valid route and there is no reason it shouldn’t show up. I just ticketed HKG-BKK-SYD on TG in first without issue. NRT-BKK-SYD comes up all the time. So call. In the meantime I will see if I can come up with a trick to get that combo to show.

Get United on the phone and feed them those segments to see if it’ll be valid. If it works, keep the agent on the phone while you transfer points since Chase to UA transfers are instant.

I’m hearing that it may not work if their online award search doesn’t show it but it’s also not perfect. I had an OZ J award booked and tried to change one segment to F online and it wouldn’t show it as one mixed cabin itinerary. The agent I got on the phone was able to modify the ticket so transferred points then and there so that she could change the ticket right away.

@wilve What are the flight #’s? I’m getting tons of mixed first class down to SYD. I assume you are taking the A380 that departs at 5:25 and arrives at 9:55PM. Are you looking at the SYD morning or evening flight. (Note, typically the morning flight is on the old style first class seat 747.)
