Hertz Rental Car Misunderstanding

Hertz Rental Car Misunderstanding

  1. Erc New Member

Hi! I’m hoping I could get some good advice on how to handle this situation. My wife and I recently traveled to Florida earlier this month and I had rented a car from Hertz at FLL. In early October I had made a bunch of pay later reservations with a few different companies to see where I could get the best deal. Ultimately, I ended up booking a car with Hertz through Priceline where they had a great daily flash sale price. I paid for this completely upfront in October and it was non-refundable.
Now, just a week ago I got a new bill from Hertz for the entire cost of the rental (charged to a different credit card). I was quite confused because I had already paid through Priceline and it appears I’m being charged twice. I called Hertz and it turns out that when I picked up the car, it mistakingly used the reservation that was for pay later and not the one I booked and paid for already through Priceline. I explained that I had given my driver’s license to the employee and assumed that they would’ve at least seen the two reservations but was told by the Hertz representative on the phone that this was my error (I should’ve looked more carefully at the confirmation # when I got my receipt leaving with the car). I then asked her if she could confirm that Hertz was paid through Priceline for my other reservation and was told it doesn’t matter. I tried explaining it doesn’t seem right that I am paying double for this reservation and Hertz is getting paid twice. The rep was extremely unhelpful and I ended the call saying I am going to have to dispute Hertz’s charge on my credit card statement.
Any advice on how to handle this? Is disputing the charge on my credit card the best way to go? Clearly, I won’t make the same mistake with multiple reservations again in the future. Paying twice for this rental is just very unfair.
