Fast refunds from TAP and United
Here is my experience with TAP and United refunds:
In short, I requested refunds on Sunday night, and got both refunds by Wednesday morning. Very easy processes.
TAP was a revenue ticket, flight NOT cancelled by TAP – still shows as being operated for June 20th. TAP generously offers a travel certificate (voucher) for 120% of value of the original ticket, even if the passenger decides to cancel. Easy cancellation online, I got an email confirming that. Within really 2 days I got the voucher code via email. Already used it up for booking for next May (interestingly they are going to operate the A321 neo [and not the A330 neo]). Had $200 value left on the voucher. The great thing is that you do not have to use up all the value in one booking. The balance can be kept there and used in the future (valid for 2 years).
An important information regarding the vouchers: you can only use one voucher for booking online. If you have multiple vouchers, you have to call TAP to do that on the phone.
United was also a revenue ticket, but Basic Economy. I actually called United, they cancelled my ticket and confirmed that I would be eligible for the travel certificate. Yesterday the email came with the code.
Hopefully for everyone else the processes will be painless.
