Etihad Chaffeur for ticket purchased on AA
I saw your August 2016 article on “Etihad Cuts Chauffeur Service For American Award Passengers.” Here is my issue that arose today. I have flown between LAX and AUH several times on Etihad in business class the last few months, always paying FULL FARE. Most trips I booked through AA so that my miles would qualify for AA elite status (I learned this lesson the hard way). I took this trip on August 26, and Etihad gave me the free chauffeur trip on both ends. with no issue. Today I booked it again and called Etihad to book the chauffeur, and they told me about the new policy as of August 10, and told me that I did not qualify for the chauffeur service. Question: does this new “no chauffeur” policy on Etihad apply to tickets purchased FOR FULL FARE through American? Or is it only for award tickets? I read your article and wasn’t sure. If Etihad is now saying they will not give me chauffeur service even when I pay FULL FARE through AA, they are being really short sighted. [/SIZE]
My understanding was that this was only for award tickets. I would call back and try a couple of different people.
Thanks Gaurav, you are correct. I called Etihad and the rep confirmed that this new policy only applies to award or redemption tickets. So even though I purchased my ticket through American, I still qualify for a chauffeur car because I am purchasing my ticket with money, not miles.
