CX Award Space

CX Award Space

Does anyone know if CX still releases last minute award space if unsold? I’m trying to book a flight for two people from Hong Kong to LAX in August using Alaska miles and can currently get 1 business seat and one first seat, but would ideally like to upgrade the second seat to first (or downgrade the other seat back to business if we can’t get first). I checked the BA website for the next few weeks as a sense check and there doesn’t appear to be any last minute award space at all (even on flights that have plenty of open seats). Thanks for any help/advice.

There’s no guarantee, but yes, CX is historically one of the better ones to release seats back into inventory.

I think your issue is unfortunately going to be very little available space. With Cathay’s Business/First sale from last week, so much inventory has already been snagged. Ben posted how there are days with almost 100% of First Class seats sold already on key, summer weekends in 2019.

If your dates are set, I would be booking that business and first seat you can see available now… immediately. And, just hope for the best.
