Changing airlines at LAX

Changing airlines at LAX

Later this month I’ll be arriving in LAX on Qantas (I assume at TBIT) and have a separate ticket on United to get home. Is there a way to get to the United re-check (and get a new bag tag) before exiting the terminal or do I have to lug my bag all the way to the United main check-in desk?

After you complete security, there are signs directing you to turn right to re-check your bags for your next flight while still in TBIT, provided that you were able to arrange for Qantas to ticket your bags to your final destination. Otherwise, you may need to take them to the United check-in desk. Fortunately, it’s only about a 5-minute walk to Terminal 7 and the outdoor walkway is covered. Free luggage carts are available.

I’m not expecting Qantas to check it all the way through. What I’m trying to find out is if UA has a re-check desk that can be accessed before I leave that area. I know in Chicago when I arrive on OW flights I can cross over to the UA re-check desk and am hoping there’s something similar in LA.

It’s simply a matter of going to the re-check desk and seeing whether they will do this. UA does have a re-check desk there. It won’t hurt to try.

What Michael said – I know there is a re-check desk there for United. I know I have seen various airline employees print new tags. I just don’t remember if they were United or not…which isn’t helpful, I know.
