Booking Emirates First Class via Alaska from LAX to DXB: No Award Space Showing After 3/24/2018?

Booking Emirates First Class via Alaska from LAX to DXB: No Award Space Showing After 3/24/2018?

    Hi Lucky,

I have been trying to book first class award seats using Alaska miles on Emirates for LAX to DXB. So far, the Alaska search engine is only showing availability until 3/24/2018, but my goal is to book travel for 3/26 or 3/27 in order to attend Dubai World Cup 2018.

Historically, Alaska has been publishing award seats availability 330 days away from travel, but it seems that the direct LAX to DXB Emirates flight has stopped showing up for 3/25 onwards…

Do you think this is because Emirates is blocking award travel by Alaska miles (perhaps in preparation of another Alaska miles devaluation)? Or is this just a award travel blackout policy imposed by Emirates that does not seem to be published in any of the redemption policies…?

I would really appreciate any advice or input on this matter – and thank you very much for the great content on your website!

    Best regards,

    Tim K.

Airlines don’t necessarily release award space right at the window, particularly over dates with potentially high demand. They can also choose not to release space on certain dates or routes — there doesn’t have to be a specific policy. I wouldn’t read too much into it at this point, given the schedule just opened for the 27th.

If you’re nervous, and would potentially have some flexibility, I’d go ahead and book the flights for the 24th. You could always change them if something else opens up in the coming weeks.
