Award travel on Mileage Plus

Award travel on Mileage Plus

  1. Anonymous Guest

I have 380,000 miles on UA and have been trying to book an award travel either to Asia or Europe but have no luck finding anything available 300 days and beyond.
Does anyone know of a better way to book award travel on UA website. They seem to be a lot more stingy than ever before!

Can someone suggest the best way of finding business seats on mileage plus for intercontinental flights using saver awards? I have not luck finding anything 300 days out.

Welcome @Daniel Chung – when you say “intercontinental” do you mean “trans-continental”? That is between LAX/SFO and NYC/EWR (or similar) or do you mean “between two continents”?

I believe the transcons are very difficult to find saver award space on, no matter which airline you choose. Sometimes there are seats made available very close to the flight dates but before elites have a chance at upgrades. If you’re a United credit card holder you’ll want to be sure to log into your United account as they do make more award seats available to card holders.

If you meant “between continents” perhaps you could give us examples of your city pairs and the time of year you want to fly.

Thanks for your quick response. I was thinking of SFO-LHR or SFO-HKG tickets but it looks pretty bleak to find anything 9-10 months in advance unless one is willing to fly Turkish Air via Istanbul in either direction which is so time consuming!

Flights from the west coast to Europe in premium cabins can be tough. Have you tried looking at availability from DEN or IAH? Yes, there’s a positioning flight involved but you might have better luck.

The TPG team put together a post about looking for Star Alliance award availability last month. It points out that the calendar at the top of the page on the UA site can’t fully be trusted so if that’s what you’ve been looking at, you may need to dig a little deeper.

    Good luck!
