ATM problems Fiji

  1. Anonymous Guest

On recent stay in Fiji encountered problem with Fiji currency – ATM gave me Fiji dollars that my hotel (Hilton Double Tree) would not except. It seems if Fiji dollars depict Queen Elizabeth that currency is not excepted by merchants or hotels. Yet the ATM at the hotel gave me the bills – had to demand acceptance at check out ($70 FJD). Do you know the reason for the denial – the bills look similar to more updated bills – and what to do if a banks ATM gives you the bad bill at such remote locations as Hilton Double Tree on Sonaisali Island??? I believe I was fortunate that I talked the clerk into excepting the bills – the stores at the resort would not except them.

Seems like an unfortunate situation. Not much else you could have done in that situation. Hopefully the hotel takes it up with their ATM provider financial institution.
