American Airlines Flagship Business vs. Virgin Atlantic Upper Class

American Airlines Flagship Business vs. Virgin Atlantic Upper Class

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi Lucky (and all),

I had to choose between American Airlines Flagship Business (i.e. in a 777-300ER) and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class (in a 350-1000), which one should I choose?

    Thanks!

Welcome KyM, I haven’t flown VS’s 350-1000 (only CX’s 350-1000). The A350 a nice plane, but I don’t have quite the crush on it that Lucky does. I wouldn’t go out of my way to fly it over another plane (like the 787), but all things being equal I’d probably take VS over AA’s J service. Here is Lucky’s VS review of Upper Class on the 350-1000: https://onemileatatime.com/virgin-atlantic-a350-upper-class-review/

The A350 is generally far, far more pleasant than the 777. It’s a very quiet ride, so I’d choose that over AA especially since it’ll have the new biz seats.

I guess I should have been more clear (and I am not saying you were responding directly to my post), but I wouldn’t go out of my way to take the A350 over a 787. Over a 777, sure. Except that most 777s (depending on config) have more J seats, so often a better chance for an upgrade.

I must admit, I am comparing apples to oranges. I’ve only flown the A350 on CX, where I was less than impressed. I’ve flown BA’s 787s in J, PE, and Y, and AA’s in J, and frankly, like both better than CX’s A350. With a couple of glasses of red wine and noise cancelling headphones, I cannot tell if one is quieter than the other.
