Should I Do the Platinum Challenge on American?

Should I Do the Platinum Challenge on American?

So, I am currently AAdvantage Gold and will requalify for the status (with enough margin) this month. My question, however, is if you think it would be worth it to do the Platinum challenge for $250, as I will be able to fulfill the 15K EQM necessary for it.

I would say about 75 percent of my travel is with people with Platinum or Executive Platinum status. That is where I am stuck. Do you think the $250 would be worth it for the incremental difference on 6-8 domestic segments (average a few hours as I’m based out of DFW)? In otherwords, the approx. $30 to $40 per flight? I would love your feedback here. Thanks!

DFW is very AA elite heavy which means you’ll have a ton of competition for upgrades and stuff. I’d advise against it unless you’re confident in being able to requalify for Platinum next year. Also remember that next year will see the introduction of Platinum Pro, meaning as a Platinum you’d be lower on the upgrade list.

I have only cleared once via complimentary upgrades as Gold (and it was 6 a.m. to Kansas City on a Tuesday), so I certainly get that. Appreciate the input there.

But Platinum Pro won’t take affect until the year after. Thoughts there?

It’d be nice for the first year but unless you can easily requalify, it’s probably not worth it. Especially if these challenges are once per lifetitme, if i remember correctly
