AA Platinum challenge and match

AA Platinum challenge and match

Hi I have 2 domestic coach round trips coming up in May (CLE-JFK-390USD and CLE-ORD-360USD) and one Business intl in June (CLE-MUC- 5000USD) all on American Airlines as I was targeted via email to earn double award miles for all flights till Aug 31(Double miles will be calculated at 100% of the base miles earned) which will get activated after completing 4 segments. My question is that does it make sense to apply for AA Platinum status match and even buy(quoted 270 +200 by AA) it during challenge period to get those extra 3 miles/dollar. I will definitely qualify for Platinum after the MUC trip but I am not sure what extra benefits(other than the one I get while travelling business) I would be earning. I am not expecting any travels in the second half of the year barring one tentative trip to MUC in business. Please advise if its worth spending ~500USD?
