Which airline should I transfer my points?

Which airline should I transfer my points?

Hello – I currently have about 170,000 points at AMEX and 190000 points at Sapphire Reserve.

I am planning to cancel Amex in the next two weeks and was wondering which airline should I transfer these points.

My husband and I are planning to go to either Hong Kong, Japan or Australia/New Zealand in Nov 18 and we would like to take Business Class

Our preferred airline is Cathy Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines, ANA, Qantas or Air New Zealand.

I appreciate any input you may have

    Thank You

First – if you’re unsure about the travel or cant find uses for the points when you need to travel, I recommend downgrading the Amex (or applying for a new card) to the Everyday card. It has no annual fee but will keep your points and still be transferable.

Both Amex MR and Chase UR will transfer to Singapore Airlines to book premium cabin awards You can waitlist on awards and then transfer points to book – if you clear the waitlist, they generally give you a few days to confirm the ticket.

You can book travel on ANA or NZ by transferring Amex MR to Aeroplan, though there are fuel surcharges. You can transfer Chase UR to United to book travel on those airlines. More points are required but they dont pass on fuel surcharges.

While distance based, you can transfer Amex MR and Chase UR points to BA to book JAL, Cathay or Qantas. Flights originating HKG wont have fuel surcharges but other flights will.

You can also transfer Chase UR points to Cathay Asia Miles, which is also distance based.

It’s important that you find award space first before transferring the miles.

Hello – may I know what is AMEX MR? I had Amex Platinum

Also if I am going to get another card, will that be better if I take AMEX Gold instead of the Every Day card? Thanks ! Capri

AMEX MR is the American Express Membership Rewards – just the name of the transferable points currency. That’s the points that your Amex Platinum card has been earning
