Should I cash upgrade to Westin Maldives overwater villa?

Should I cash upgrade to Westin Maldives overwater villa?

I just used the last day of the 60k tier 7 to book five night at the Westin Maldives in February 2020, for a total of 240k points (in addition to about $1,100 in fees, which includes domestic transfer from the airport for two).

The room I booked is their standard room, the Island Villa on the beach. I can’t seem to be able to get Marriott to let me use points to upgrade to an overnight room (though if there’s a trick for this, please let me know).

I have been able to contact the hotel, and they are quoting about $200/night extra to upgrade to an overwater villa without a pool, or $440/night extra to upgrade to an overwater villa with a pool.

Are either of these upgrades worth it? I’m thinking the overwater without a pool for sure is, to get that “Maldives experience,” but not sure if the extra $240/night for the pool is worth it. Is there a way to do this with points instead of cash?

Could you split it up? upgrade to the pool for one night and the rest of the nights in the non-pool room

I could, yes. The island villa room I’m currently booked in also already has a pool. Yeah, I’m thinking non-pool for three nights and with pool for the final two nights.

Still wondering if there is a way to do it with points instead?

Dont think so. I’ve only ever read about Lucky upgrading with Cash at these types of properties. I’m sure he would have mentioned using points as an option, if it was available.
