Redeem Etihad flights using AA miles
Hi Ben,
I am trying to redeem two business seats from ZRH to PVG via AUH by Etihad airline using AA miles. I called the AAdvantage desk after I found the seats on Eithad website. However, I was first quoted 60,000 miles per person instead of 52,000 miles (published rate from Europe to North Aisa on AA website), I was told that it costed more miles because I was charged from Europe to middle east, then middle east to North Asia separately even though the connection time in AUH is only 2 hours. Is this correct?
Also, the sum of tax and fees include 20 bucks per person for booking fee, I remember that AA already dropped that fee for booking award ticket that can’t find on their website, right? Why I was still charged for the booking by phone here?
Anyway, the ticket is held for a couple more days. I will wait for your answer before get them ticketed.
Thanks,
Yang
Hi Ben,
I am trying to redeem two business seats using AA miles on Eithad from ZRH to PVG (via AUH). Per your blog, I was able to find the available flights on Etihad website, then I called AA to book the ticket. However, I was quoted for 60,000 miles per person (instead of 52,500 on their published rate between Europe and North Asia), the agent’s explanation was because the connection flight (about 2 hours) is at AUH, so mileage was priced as from europe to middle east, and middle east to north asia separately. Is this correct?
Also, I was charged for 20$ booking fees per person . I remember AA recently dropped the award booking fee for not be able to book the award ticket online, right? The ticket is currently on hold now, but I want to find the right argument when I call AA again and get them ticketed.
Thanks,
Yang
@ yang — The agent gave you the correct price. From Europe to Asia 2 you’re only allowed to connect in Doha (if flying Qatar Airways), or in Asia 1: http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/04/12/how-to-redeem-american-aadvantage-miles/
As far as the phone fee, that shouldn’t be charged, but it’s always a fight, it seems.
