Avios Transfer to Iberia and Award Availability

Avios Transfer to Iberia and Award Availability

  1. Aerov53 Member

    Hello Everyone,

I’m planning a RTW trip on miles using primarily Chase Ultimate Rewards and United MP miles (a bit AA as well). A component of my trip is a flight from DEN to FCO I’m looking at transferring CUR miles to BA Avios and BA Avios to IB Avios for a transatlantic business class redemption.

First off I’m looking for any info regarding Iberia award availability. I’ve chosen this route as I’m trying to avoid BA fuel surcharges, United’s subpar product and the *A’s higher redemption costs via United.

Second I’m trying to understand the transfer. I have already established an IB and BA account as I read you need 90 days of existence to create a transfer, but I also read you need IB activity to transfer. What is the best avenue for a U.S. based reader to get activity? Buying miles? Crediting AA flights to IB? Your comments are appreciated!

@Aerov53, you seem to have the process down pretty well. The only thing I’d add is that you can transfer MR to IB for activity. With regards to award availability you should be able to check on BA for saver space.

Availability isn’t great these days, but you can check routes in advance using the British Airways tool or ExpertFlyer.

@Tiffany so that’s not good. Any suggestions for business class redemptions to Rome? Primary miles would be UR, MR and UA. I could potentially do saver level AA but I would need to put it quite a bit of spend.

I’d probably keep checking for space on Star Alliance. Using Korean or Delta might also be good. Try searching for space on Aeroflot thru Moscow?

Star Alliance and SkyTeam are the best options to Europe lately — it depends on your dates.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I’ll take a look at some other options. October ’18 is the time frame I’m looking at.
