AA award change
I apologize ahead of time and I know this has been covered at naseum. My father booked a flight from PVG to ORD then ORD to EWR prior to deval. It is a milesaaver award I believe. Unfortunately due to a family emergency he wants to push it out about a month. I talked to a AA agent last night who indicated that it would require a change fee or additional miles as long as it is within 21 days of departure. I tried to change the flights this afternoon, and of course they are now saying it does require additional miles even though cites etc remain the same and we are just pushing out the date. Is this because it is changing award type from milesaaver to AAnytime. Should I just HUCA and hope for the best, or am I SOL?
If you are changing the award type (saver to anytime) you’ll have to pay the current rates unfortunately. Have you explored any alternate routings? If you can find saver routes via another routing you should be able to pay the same amount of miles. You can also cancel the reservation and keep the award in place for future use when you can find saver space within a year of ticketing.
