Qatar Airways announces Miami to Doha service as of June 1, 2014

Qatar Airways will be joining the OneWorld alliance as of October 30, 2013, which is exciting news. This opens up a ton of new opportunities for earning and burning OneWorld miles on Qatar Airways, including many new routes that aren’t currently served by OneWorld carriers. I’m especially excited at the prospect of redeeming American AAdvantage miles for distance based awards on Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways began service to Chicago earlier in the year, and recently announced service to Philadelphia as of April 2014, in addition to their current North American gateways of Houston, Montreal, New York, and Washington.

On Monday Qatar Airways will also apparently announce four times weekly service between Doha and Miami using a Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.

This route is hardly surprising given the amount of feed that American can provide to Latin America thanks to their partnership, so I’m guessing it’ll work out quite nicely.

Here’s to hoping they release a good amount of award space. You can find more on general Qatar Airways award availability trends in this post.

I’ll post again once the route is “official” and they publish the schedule and start releasing award space.

  1. This is a dream come true to me. Leaving in DOH and having a place in Ft Lauderdale leaves me stone throw with one plane! I am gonna miss the LH A380 though…

  2. Lots of Latin Arabs and business contacts in Latin America and Miami. Add feeds to China and Hong Kong on a great airline and this new option will be fantastic for them ( even if you have to fly AA first)

Question is, how long will this flight take…. 16.5 hours? Too much to me (for a non-stop) even if it is in F or J.

But for Latin America it will be OK; they are already used to the 12+ hours to Europe.

  3. …and they are also talking of Detroit and Boston, by early 2014, but got delayed due to the grounding of the 787. We will see
