Priority Club’s awesome fourth quarter promotion

While Hyatt’s “Great 10K” fall promotion is a bit of a disappointment, Priority Club’s fall promotion is quite lucrative.

Between September 20 and December 31, they’re offering either double points or free nights. For the duration of the promotion period you can earn either double base points after your first stay, or one free night for every two stays outside of Asia Pacific. You can earn a maximum of five free nights, and the (small) catch is that you don’t earn points on your stays if you go with this option. The redemption period is quite generous on this as well, with redemptions possible through June 1, 2011.

You can bet I’ll be going with the free nights option, and it will definitely drive some more fall business towards Priority Club for me, though I’m capping my stays with them at ten.

Let’s see if this promotion is enough to convince Hyatt to match…

  1. I will choose carefully – – I am a diamond at Hyatt, and a Plat at SPG – – new to the Priority club – – but quickly moving up and this promotion, using the points options, might make it a bit easier to get to Plat before the end of the year.

Not being used to many Priority Club promotions, I find that the redemption policy is somewhat limiting – – make a reservation, cancel or modify it, and you lose the free night credit. Seems a bit draconian being that you are only limited to earning 5 free nights.

    From the FAQ’s:

Is it possible to upgrade my Free Night(s)?
Upgrades on Free Night(s) are not available.

Can someone else use my Free Night(s)?
    Free Night(s) are non-transferable.

May I cancel a Free Night reservation?
Yes, but please note that cancellation of booking results in forfeiture of the earned Free Night(s).

Will I be charged a fee if I do cancel?
No-show charges will not apply if you fail to show up on your Free Night reservation, but you will forfeit the Free Night.

Can I modify a Free Night reservation?
No. Upon completion of the booking process, Free Nights are considered used and cannot be modified

  2. You forgot to add the ‘Free Nights’ are capped at each property – so you may not even get to use it where you want to go. Not changing my Hyatt reservations for this one yet …

  3. If you choose fee nights, you do not earn base or elite bonus points on all paid stays during the promotion’s earning period (even after you’ve maxed out at 5 free nights). That means that you are giving up at least 4,000 points per IC stay plus losing the opportunity to earn 2,000 bonus points per IC stay. If all of your stays are one night, then each free night earned is costing you 12,000 points. Not a bad deal, but certainly not as good as Hyatt’s FFN promotions if the past!

  4. Would the “Stay X, Earn X” promos apply to members who choose free nights? IIRC last year’s summer free nights promo did allow the “Stay X, Earn X” bonuses to be earned.
