Hyatt has just introduced an exclusive alliance with Under Canvas, opening up some unique new lodging options that many World of Hyatt members will appreciate.

Basics of the Hyatt & Under Canvas partnership

Thanks to a new partnership, World of Hyatt members can earn and redeem points for stays at Under Canvas properties.

For those not familiar with Under Canvas, the company has 13 outdoor resorts, which are primarily at national parks and other notable outdoor destinations. Properties include Under Canvas Bryce Canyon, Under Canvas Grand Canyon, Under Canvas Lake Powell-Grand Staircase, Under Canvas Moab, Under Canvas Zion, and even ULUM Moab.

ULUM Moab

Under Canvas camps offer an upscale “glamping” experience, with safari-inspired tents, and complimentary programming, such as nightly campfires with s’mores, board games, yoga, and activities for kids. The properties also have some food and beverage options, so you’re not totally roughing it. 😉

I’m legitimately excited about these properties being added to World of Hyatt. A friend had recommended a trip to an Under Canvas property last year, but the timing didn’t work out. Now that there’s a loyalty collaboration, it’s all the more reason to give one of these properties a try.

This is being done through the Mr & Mrs Smith platform

So, how exactly are Under Canvas properties being integrated into World of Hyatt? As we know, a while back Hyatt acquired Mr & Mrs Smith, a luxury travel agency of sorts. Many Mr & Mrs Smith properties have been integrated into Hyatt booking channels, and that’s exactly what we’re seeing here as well.

So you’ll now see all Under Canvas properties on Hyatt’s website, listed as Mr & Mrs Smith properties. If you’re booking a revenue stay, I’m finding that Hyatt has the same pricing you’ll find directly with Under Canvas, so that’s great.

When booking a Mr & Mrs Smith property through Hyatt channels, you’ll earn the same number of points as you would at a Hyatt property:

When it comes to redeeming World of Hyatt points, unfortunately award pricing is dynamic, as is standard at Mr & Mrs Smith properties. I’m finding that each Hyatt point gets you around 1.1-1.3 cents toward a stay, which is less than the 1.5 cent rate at which I value Hyatt points.

So personally I see a lot more value here with earning points and elite nights, rather than redeeming points.

Bottom line

World of Hyatt has launched a partnership with Under Canvas, giving World of Hyatt members access to some pretty awesome outdoor accommodations. These properties have been integrated into Hyatt’s Mr & Mrs Smith platform.

This means you can earn World of Hyatt points and elite nights for stays at these properties. While you can also redeem points, it’s not quite as good of a deal.

What do you make of the new Hyatt & Under Canvas partnership?

These are really fun properties to stay in with kids. My 3 love them. I’m curious if they’ll waive the resort fee for globalists? Anyone know?

Yet another weird quirk to show up from Hyatt's Pointless Collection.

[If you're into camping, I guess it's neat. But it still strikes me as a really weird sideshow...]

I really appreciate this option. I’m a total outdoor person. My husband and I will consider next time we visit one of the national parks.

Many members will appreciate?? I say no this is such a small niche I bet less than 1% of Hyatt members will have interest.

No value proposition to the point holders. In fact, we're the product being sold by Hyatt to MMS and now this fancy tent place. Hard pass.

Agreed... the poor value dynamic redemption rates combined with lackadaisical elite recognition at these MMS properties SCREAMS "Bonvoy," not World of Hyatt. C'mon Hyatt. Quit ruining a good thing!
