Is Marriott launching a premium business credit card?
Doctor Of Credit flags how on August 28, 2026, a trademark application was filed for the term “Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Business.” Unsurprisingly, this is intended for something involving a credit card:
Based on Marriott International, Inc., the MARRIOTT BONVOY BRILLIANT BUSINESS trademark will be used in the following business: Issuance of credit cards; Processing of credit card payments; Credit card authorization services; Credit card transaction processing services.
The Bonvoy Brilliant Card is currently the most premium co-branded Marriott card in the United States. It wouldn’t at all be surprising to see a business card with a similar value proposition.
Marriott has in the past sent out surveys regarding a premium business credit card, though that doesn’t necessarily mean anything will come of that. In this case, clearly something appears to be in the works, though.
I do think the big mystery here is what kind of a timeline we’re looking at. The trademark application was filed within the past couple of weeks, and I would think there’s usually a pretty big gap between when a trademark application is filed, and when a product is actually supposed to launch.
At least that has historically been the case. Then again, since this is just adding a card to an existing product line, I suppose it might be a bit more straightforward than other product launches.
What I’d expect from a Bonvoy Brilliant Business Card
It’s pretty common to see both a business and personal version of a premium card, and they’re often quite similar. Maybe some bonus categories are tailored to the product type, and maybe some credits differ a little bit (to reflect consumer spending vs. business spending), but the general idea is typically the same.
If a card were to launch — this is an “if,” and I have no inside information here — my guess is that we’d see a similar value proposition. Most importantly, I suspect the card would offer Bonvoy Platinum status as well, and an annual free night award that’s worth quite a bit (the personal version has one worth 85,000 points).
The personal version of this card also offers 25 elite nights toward status annually, while most other Marriott cards offer only 15 elite nights toward status. Under current rules, you can earn elite nights from one personal card and one business card.
One interesting angle here is that if the business card were to also offer 25 elite nights toward status, and if you had both the personal version of the card, you’d start every year with 50 elite nights, and that would automatically unlock Bonvoy Choice Benefits.
I think the other likely scenario is that we see a refresh of the personal version of the card (in other words, a higher fee, and probably some more chunked out statement credits), and see a business card launch at the same time.
Anyway, enough speculation. Time will tell, and for now we’ll just mark this as “developing.”
Bottom line
Marriott has just filed a trademark application for “Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant Business,” for a credit card product. This matches the name of Marriott’s most premium personal card, so that suggests we could see a similar business card launched. The timeline for this remains a mystery, but something is clearly in the works (again, I have no inside info here, other than trying to make sense of the above application).
