The Amex Centurion Lounge network is expanding, as plans have just been announced for yet another location. This is an exciting one, as it’s an airport that sure could use more lounge options!

16,000 square foot Centurion Lounge planned for Salt Lake City

In 2025, American Express plans to open a new Centurion Lounge at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). The new lounge will be nearly 16,000 square feet, and will be located in the new Concourse B, as part of Phase 4 of the SLC Airport Redevelopment program.

For those not familiar, Centurion Lounges are some of the awesome lounges that those with The Platinum Card® from American Express (review) and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express (review) have access to. For many cardmembers, lounge access is a favorite perk.

The Centurion Lounge Salt Lake City is described as being “inspired by Utah’s breathtaking topography,” and will feature an outdoor terrace with views of the Wasatch Mountains, a full bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, a full-service coffee bar featuring beans from a local roaster, food from an award-winning chef, a dedicated wellness room, and other signature Centurion Lounge amenities.

Here’s how Audrey Hendley, President of American Express Travel, describes this development:

“American Express has strong roots in the Salt Lake City community. It’s home to many of our colleagues and Card Members and a popular vacation destination for US and global Card Members. The new Centurion Lounge will give eligible Card Members a taste of what this beautiful destination has to offer and feature premium amenities for all types of travelers.”

We don’t yet know when in 2025 the lounge will open, though I’ll be sure to provide updates as they become available.

Rendering of the Centurion Lounge Salt Lake City Airport

My take on the Centurion Lounge Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is of course a fortress hub for Delta. While the airport is undergoing a very nice redevelopment, at the moment lounge options are extremely limited. Currently the only “traditional” lounge is a Delta Sky Club in Concourse A, which is impressive, but of course is of limited use for those not flying with Delta.

There are also plans for a second Delta Sky Club to be located in Concourse B, as well as a United Club in Concourse B. Now we’re going to see yet another lounge option.

It’s not surprising to see Amex opening a lounge at a Delta hub, given the close partnership between Amex and Delta. Those with an Amex Platinum Card who are flying Delta will have the option of visiting the Delta Sky Club or Amex Centurion Lounge (with certain limitations), while those with an Amex Platinum Card not flying with Delta will be able to use the Centurion Lounge.

I still wish we’d see some more “competing” lounge options in Salt Lake City, whether it’s a Priority Pass lounge, Chase Sapphire Lounge, or Capital One Lounge. Regardless, this is a move in the right direction, and it’s nice to see the overall growth of lounge capacity at the airport.

The Delta Sky Club Salt Lake City Airport

Bottom line

In 2025, American Express will be opening a Centurion Lounge at Salt Lake City Airport. This is an exciting development, given the airport’s current lack of lounge options. This is in addition to plans for a second Delta Sky Club, as well as a United Club. I’m looking forward to learning more details closer to when the new concourse opens.

What do you make of the Amex Centurion Lounge Salt Lake City?

SLC is the most underrated city in America.

I am not religious at all. The only negative thing I can say is how unfriendly the city is compared to expectations. I was expecting Japanese or US Southern hospitality levels of friendliness, because usually you get that when a city has been religiously influenced for so long. Instead, SLC is only average or slightly above average among American cities for friendliness. I am quite sure a...

There is no point in AMEX opening more Centurion Lounges when they severely restrict access to the lounge!! This has happened on multiple occasions to me as an AMEX Platinum cardholder and the single biggest reason I am thinking about ditching the card with its very high fees.

AMEX decided last year to attempt to restrict access to Centurion Lounges by only allowing the primary cardholder access rights from the previous policy of allowing associate/additional cardholders lounge access. This had minimal effect - the lounge is still overcrowded and oftentimes there's a sign that says "come back in 45 minutes"!! What is interesting is that the AMEX Global Lounge collection and some Aspire lounges [where there are no Centurion lounges] - which are less exclusive NEVER seem to have overcrowding issues AND allow complimentary access for guests. Go figure!!?? Oftentimes now a Priority Pass lounge is a better option and certainly not what AMEX Centurion wants to be compared against.

Even with a line snaking around the terminal, people will still wait at SEA. Then you get up to the lounge and see all the empty tables being reserved for the precious black card members. That and a minimum entry of 3 hours before flight. They want you money but don't want you hogging the lounge. It was so much better 10 years ago without Centurion lounges. I could get in a Priority lounge, an...

I could get in a Priority lounge, an AA lounge or Delta lounge if flying those airlines. And it was rarely crowded. Now everyone's got a Platty.

Do you know why both AA and AS cancelled their direct flights to LAX and SFO, respectively? Currently there are no direct OneWorld flights from SLC to LAX/SFO, which makes travel to Asia difficult on OW airlines from SLC. Would you care to investigate and write an article about this, please. Thank you!

United express flies from LAX to SLC and AA is seasonal with two flights a day.y AS comenzará en diciembre de SFO a SLC.

It looks like it's missing the Zion Curtain.

Sounds like the last time you were in SLC was in 1989, that or you've just never been.

Excellent. UA and AA fly from B, along with some DL. CL will ease the sting of big walk.

Looks promising. SLC’s Sky Club is great but if I can save money on cocktails (or, better yet, enjoy a good coffee before morning departures) I’ll certainly take that instead.

Hopefully this will result in less crowding of the Sky Club. As it stands, finding a good spot for 2+ people can be quite challenging.
