Aegean Airlines Adds Free Wi-Fi For All Miles+Bonus Members

3

We’ve seen a trend lately whereby airlines have increasingly rolled out free Wi-Fi for passengers. This has come in a variety of forms, ranging from Delta offering unlimited free Wi-Fi to all SkyMiles members, to Air Canada offering free inflight messaging to Aeroplan members.

Aegean Airlines is now joining the list of airlines offering free Wi-Fi, but with some limitations.

Details of Aegean Airlines’ new free Wi-Fi offering

As of December 2023, Aegean Airlines has rolled out free Wi-Fi on a widespread basis for members of its Miles+Bonus frequent flyer program:

  • This is available on all aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi, which includes all the carrier’s A320neo and A321neo aircraft (A320ceos and A321ceos don’t have Wi-Fi)
  • Business class passengers and Miles+Bonus Gold members receive a free Stream pass, while all other Miles+Bonus members receive a free Text & Surf pass
  • The Stream pass offers speeds of up to 15 Mbps (and ordinarily costs €12 per flight), while the Text & Surf pass offers speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps (and ordinarily costs €6 per flight)

For what it’s worth, the airline has already offered the free Stream pass for business class passengers and Gold members for quite some time, so what’s new is the Text & Surf Pass for economy passengers who are program members.

What a great initiative from Aegean Airlines!

Usually traveling within Europe is nothing to get excited about, given the types of planes typically flown, and the service level. That being said, Greek Star Alliance carrier Aegean definitely offers one of the best experiences in Europe — the airline continues to offer free food and drinks in economy, and also has an excellent business class product.

Aegean’s latest initiative is an awesome one, as all economy passengers who are also Miles+Bonus members can now enjoy free Wi-Fi, beyond just texting. I can’t think of another European carrier that offers free Wi-Fi (including web browsing) to all loyalty program members, so this is awesome.

I am a little puzzled by Aegean’s Wi-Fi chart suggesting that the Streaming pass allows you to “jump on a call with friends and coworkers.” Does the airline actually allow using Wi-Fi for calls, or is there a disconnect between the product and marketing team?

Bottom line

Aegean Airlines has introduced free Wi-Fi for all Miles+Bonus members, available on all A320neo and A321neo aircraft. Previously the airline offered a free Stream package to business class passengers and Miles+Bonus Gold members, while now all other Miles+Bonus members get a free Text & Surf package.

This is a great development that will help Aegean flights pass by more quickly for many travelers.

What do you make of Aegean adding free Wi-Fi?

You can indeed call using the internet. I was on a London to Athens flight last week and got a FaceTime call from my daughter in San Francisco. Really cool. Have not tried video calls yet but they should work just fine with the Stream service.
