New “Up in the Air” trailer!

I thought the first two “Up in the Air” trailers were brilliant. Well, that’s until I saw the most recent trailer which was released yesterday. I can’t put into words how excited I am about this movie. Seriously, at least based on the three trailers, could they do any better of a job portraying us? Absolutely brilliant.

Some of my favorite lines from this short trailer:

“Last year I spent 322 days on the road. I flew 350,000 miles. The moon is 250.”

“All the things you probably hate about traveling are warm reminders that I am home.”

“We’re two people who get turned on by elite status.”

“You know that moment when you look into someone’s eyes and you can see them staring into your soul and the whole world goes quiet?” “Yes.” “Right, well I don’t.”

“You’re awfully isolated the way you live.” “Isolated? I’m surrounded.”

“We weigh ourselves down until we can’t even move.”

Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant.

Yeah, I’m excited.

This third trailer also dove further into the metaphor that frequent flying represents. It’s clear that when Clooney’s character can no longer ‘feed the beast’ of his frequent flying, he’s forced to face his own insecurities and his own lack of direction.

From the third trailer, I saw the brilliance of the film as less of the portrayal of life of a frequent flyer, and more of the introspection and evaluation of the quality and direction of Clooney’s (his character) life.

That said, Ben, you’re young and in college. Flying is fun for you, while Clooney’s character is at a point in his life where living for flying represents running away from facing up to what his life has become.

  2. Ben, dewd, check out the video at the 24 and 25 second mark where the airplane is taking off — you think that is a WN plane … dark blue body, orange-red-yellow tail? Your opinion, please!
