Can You Answer These Jeopardy Airline Questions?

Can You Answer These Jeopardy Airline Questions?

28

While I’m not usually a huge Jeopardy fan (why would I be, when I can instead what intellectual, quality programming like “Too Hot To Handle?”), yesterday’s episode had a fun category category, “what’s my airline?”

I figure we could all use some airline trivia at this point, so I’ll share the five questions below, and I’m curious to see how many of these you guys can answer:

  • $200 — In 1947 this carrier began flying regularly to London on what was called the “Kangaroo Route”
  • $400 — After his flight was canceled, he hired a plane, wrote “Virgin Airlines” on a board, charged $39 for 1-way & “filled up my first plane”
  • $600 — The headquarters of this airline that was organized jointly in 1953 by the federal & state government is in Cologne, Germany
  • $800 — A few years after losing control of TWA around 1960, this man sold his shares for more than $500 million
  • $1,000 — On May 27, 1936 Dublin & Bristol were on the very first route of this airline

Let us know how you did in the comments section! You can find the answers below if you highlight (or at least what I think the answers are).

$200 — Qantas, $400 — Richard Branson, $600 — Lufthansa, $800 — Howard Hughes, $1,000 — Aer Lingus

Ironically, today we laid to rest, in Sydney Australia, the great advertising man, John Anstey, simply known as Anstey, responsible back in the early 80's for coming up with the tag line for Qantas "The Spirit of Australia-The Flying Kangaroo". 40 years on, it is still being used by Qantas and is one of the most memorable airline slogans in history. Rest in peace Anstey.

How hard were the questions really? QANTAS has a kangaroo on its logo and its slogan is “Spirit of Australia”

Got all five - probably flying way too much - but I miss it.

That would have been an easy $3000.00 for me. Aer Lingus was actually the easiest question for me. I knew it was Hughes but could Leonardo DiCaprio's name wss stuck in my head.

I got caught up in minutae and missed the obvious Aer Lingus - I contemplated BEA as one of the predecessors of BA and considered Lingus but then thought it would be too hard for the contestants considering how trivial the other questions were.

Wow! I got all five. I only knew Howard Hughes though, the other four were just guesses.

The wife and I got all but Aer Lingus, we come as a team. Technically we missed them all because we did not reply in the form of a question, but...

I'm actually shocked, I got every single one right!! OMG!! I thought Howard Hugh's, then I doubted myself. Turned out I was right!! The other questions were a piece of cake this 23 year old still got it ✊

The one girl guessed Air Deutsch rather than the very simple Lufthansa...

Got all but the $1000 question.

$600 — The headquarters of this airline that was organized jointly in 1953 by the federal & state government is in Cologne, Germany

Lufthansa shouldn't be the only correct Answer. It could also be Luftag.

I'm yet to ever get an airline or airport question wrong on Jeopardy. These were too easy.

Went 5/5 while watching the episode. Wasn't too confident on the $800 question (Howard Hughes), but ended up being correct.
Was very amusing to see how confident the one contestant was in answering "Australian Airlines" to the $200 question. She then hit the daily double on the $600 question, only to continue her strategy of answering "Deutsche Airlines".

  15. Richard Guest

    Got them all correct.

I got them all. Surprised myself on Aer Lingus. I'm not sure I would have gotten that one on the show (it's probably different when there's time pressure and an audience).

  18. Jay Guest

Got all but $800 one... as a non-American $800 feels more difficult than $1000.

    1. Qantas.... Queensland and Northern Territories Air Service!
    2. Richard Branson .... shame he's considering giving up the airline if he can't get govt. funding
    3. Lufthansa
    4. Howard Hughes
    5. Are Lingus

  22. David Diamond

Got all but the $1000 question. The last question wasn't even hard, I'm disappointed in myself.

Sorry Ben, all wrong. You need to respond “Who/What is/was...?” ;)

Candidates were terrible with these super easy questions. I mean, answering Australian Airlines and Deutsche Airlines?!?!?! Hello world QANTAS even has a kangaroo on its logo haha
