IHG Rewards Club has just revealed the details of its latest global promotion for fall travel, and it even offers a special perk for those with the IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card (review). Let’s take a look at the details.

Earn double points with IHG Rewards Club

With IHG Rewards Club’s new global promotion, members can earn:

  • Unlimited double points on all stays
  • Those with the those with the IHG Rewards Club Premier Card can earn 10,000 bonus points after their first stay when paying with the card (this has to be a paid stay — award stays don’t qualify)

This promotion is valid for stays between October 1 and December 15, 2020. Registration is required prior to eligible stays.

There is no booking deadline, so nights consumed anytime during the promotion period would be eligible, as long as you register in time. All nights booked directly with IHG qualify for this promotion, as long as the nightly rate is at least $30.

If you take advantage of the 10,000 bonus points for having the co-branded credit card, bonus points will post four to six weeks after a qualifying stay.

How many points can you earn with this IHG promotion?

For context, I value IHG Rewards Club points at ~0.5 cents each. With IHG Rewards Club you earn 10x points per dollar spent at most brands (5x points per dollar at Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites). With this promotion you’re earning an incremental:

  • 10x points per dollar at most brands (which I value at a return of 5%)
  • 5x bonus points at Candlewood Suites and Staybridge Suites (which I value at a return of 2.5%)
  • 10,000 bonus points with your first stay for having a co-branded credit card, which I value at a return of $50

These bonuses don’t include:

  • The bonus points that IHG Rewards Club elite members receive (Gold members receive a 10% bonus, Platinum members a 50% bonus, and Spire members a 100% bonus)
  • If you pay with the IHG Rewards Club Premier Card you earn 10x IHG bonus points per dollar spent

IHG Rewards Club Platinum members will be earning 35x IHG Rewards Club points per dollar at most brand when paying with a co-branded credit card, which is pretty awesome. That doesn’t factor in the 10,000 bonus points for the first stay.

Bottom line

IHG has launched a new promotion offering double points on all stays globally, plus 10,000 bonus points with your first stay if you have the IHG Rewards Club Premier Card.

I’d say this promotion is extremely lucrative for your first stay if you’re eligible for the 10,000 bonus points. On top of that, double points with no caps is an all around solid bonus.

IHG’s previous promotion offered a tiered bonus, where you earned double points starting with your second stay, triple points starting with your third stay, and quadruple points starting with your fourth stay. That offer was probably better for frequent IHG guests, while this promotion may be better for those looking to make just one or two stays during the promotion period.

What do you make of IHG’s new double points promotion?

  1. Thanks lucky.

For the 10,000 bonus on first stay. Does that have to be a revenue stay or is a promo for award stay too?

  2. @Lucky – if there’s a stay starting at the end of September but finishing in the middle of October, is the stay eligible? From what I am seeing in the terms and conditions it looks like it just says stays must be completed before 15 December – doesn’t say anything about the start date of the reservation, unless I’m missing something.

  3. “ This promotion is not available to residents of the Greater China region.”

We are always second class citizen when it comes to IHG promotions.

  4. When I click on your link I see nothing about the 10,000 bonus points for paying with an IHG Premier card. Whether logged in or not logged in it doesn’t show the graphics you are showing are any additional language outside of 2X points from October 01, 2020 through December 15, 2020. I am an IHG Premier credit card holder by the way. So it seems that the 10,000 bonus points for paying with IHG Premier Card may be targeted.

  5. BUT I just clicked on the terms and conditions and voila:

For cardmembers using an IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card from Chase, an additional 10,000 Bonus Points will be awarded on your first qualifying stay during the promotional period at any IHG® Hotel and Resort worldwide. Please allow up to 4 to 6 weeks for Promotion bonus points to be credited.

  6. Looks like there’s no minimum stay length? Could do a 1 night stay for $80 at a random HIE and earn double points + 10K for paying with the IHG premier card? For real?

  7. “For cardmembers using an IHG® Rewards Club Credit Card from Chase, an additional 10,000 Bonus Points will be awarded on your first qualifying stay during the promotional period at any IHG® Hotel and Resort worldwide.”

Seems like not only the in-acquisition Premier, but also the Select card would qualify for 10k bonus?

  8. Ben: this offer also applies to the existing $49 annual fee IHG Rewards credit card, and many of us haven’t “upgraded” to the $89 card because we prefer 10% refund on redeemed points vs a fourth night free on award redemptions. I want to say that it’s very disappointing that you only mentioned a credit card that you have a referral link for but didn’t mention the other IHG card that many of your readers still have. You should make a correction and give accurate news instead of being blindly driven by profit, as this kind of error makes me less likely to use your links moving forward.

  9. @Daniel M – a point of reference: The IHG Select Card ($49 annual fee) is not open to new applicants anymore, therefor Ben can’t refer people to that card.

Also, you can have both the select and premier card and “double dip” on the benefits – like a 10% rebate on redemptions *AND* a Fourth night free.

  10. Could you stack this promo with the current IHG Ambassador Promo? So for example, enroll in ambassador program, pay for a 2 night stay (using free weekend night certificate for the second night stay and charging the first night to IHG credit card), and then get the free IHG night up to 40k points, the 10k bonus from this promo and the double points on first night?
