For years, IHG Rewards Club has been offering PointBreaks, which is one of the best promotions in the hotel industry.
When the promotion was first launched, IHG would make well over a hundred hotels available for just 5,000 points per night. The hotels are available on a limited basis, so the best hotels typically sell out within days, while some hotels stay on the list for nearly three months.
Then last year IHG Rewards Club revamped their PointBreaks concept. Over the years the quality of hotels on the list deteriorated significantly, so they now offer hotels for 5,000 10,000, or 15,000 points per night. They claim that this allows them to put more hotels on the list. Anyway, the current PointBreaks list was released in late November, and it looks like the next one will be released soon.
IHG Rewards Club has revealed that the next PointBreaks promotion will be available at 12PM EST on Monday, February 25, 2019. This will be valid for bookings and stays through May 31, 2019, subject to availability (though the best hotels generally sell out quickly).
IHG hasn’t yet revealed how many hotels will be on the list, though they’ve provided the preview of the following four hotels:
- InterContinental Pattaya, Thailand (15,000 points per night)
- InterContinental Sofia, Bulgaria (15,000 points per night)
- Hotel Indigo Mount Pleasant, USA (15,000 points per night)
- Crowne Plaza Manchester, Oxford Road, UK (15,000 points per night)
InterContinental Sofia, Bulgaria
It’s nice to see some InterContinentals on the list, though it’s also unfortunate that all four of the samples are for 15,000 points per night, which is three times the cost of old PointBreaks.
I’ll post again once the new list goes live on Monday.
In the meantime, if you don’t have any IHG points it could make sense to buy them with up to a 75% bonus through a promotion they’re running right now. That’s an opportunity to acquire IHG points for as little as 0.57 cents each.
Furthermore, if you have the IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card then you receive a fourth night free on award bookings, including PointBreaks bookings. This means that on Monday you could make a four night booking but only have to pay for three nights.
I’ll be curious to see the full list.
Typo, "IS" should be "WAS":
"For years, IHG Rewards Club has been offering PointBreaks, which is one of the best promotions in the hotel industry."
Er, you’ll find that’s Manchester, Oxford Road :-)
IC Pattaya is a great hotel. Pattaya, unfortunately, is not the nicest of locales, but it is easy to reach from Bangkok.
