Through April 30, 2018, IHG Rewards Club is offering the Accelerate promotion, which is the name of their promotion where members receive custom bonuses that are encouraged to get them to stay more. Yesterday IHG announced an add-on to this for Kimpton stays, for select members. While the promotion terms don’t say anything about the promotion being targeted, I suspect it is, given that not all members have received the email, no registration is required, and there’s no landing page for the promotion.

Specifically, you can earn 10,000 IHG Rewards Club bonus points after one Kimpton stay by June 30, 2018. Here’s the email I received:

IHG® Rewards Club and Accelerate just got even better! With Kimpton® Hotels in the family, you now have another exciting, one-of-a-kind way to stay and earn points.

To celebrate, you can earn additional bonus points when you enjoy the boutique luxury experience of a Kimpton hotel. As part of Accelerate, you’ll receive 10,000 bonus points with your next Kimpton stay anytime from now until April 30th. That’s on top of the 72,700 points you can already earn with Accelerate.

As as the beginning of this year, Kimpton Karma Rewards has been folded into the IHG Rewards Club program, so clearly they’re trying to get members to give Kimpton a try.

What’s funny about the timing of this is that my last Kimpton stay was over four years ago. Yesterday evening I booked a Kimpton stay, and about 10 minutes later I (and lots of others) received this offer. Since it’s just a one night Kimpton stay, this will end up being pretty rewarding. For reference, here’s my Accelerate offer:

Since this is my first paid IHG stay during the promotion period and I’ll pay with my IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card, that means I’ll earn 3,500 bonus points, plus the 10,000 bonus points for it being a Kimpton, plus the points I’d usually earn. That’s not bad for a one night stay!

I value IHG Rewards Club points at ~0.5 cents each, so to me the 10,000 point Kimpton bonus is worth ~$50 alone, and in total I’ll be earning nearly $100 worth of points for this stay.

So be sure to check your email to see if you’re eligible for this Kimpton bonus, since it could make a stay at one of their hotels especially lucrative.

The one thing I don’t get is why they’re connecting this to the Accelerate promotion, because I feel like it only adds confusion. It’s not added to the dashboard, and it’s not clear if this counts as a “task” for the purpose of the achievement bonus.

Were you targeted for this IHG Kimpton bonus, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?

  1. @lucky I don’t think you’ll get an additional 7500 because the 4000 “weekend stay” requires a minimum of 2 nights, and you said it was a one-night stay. Unless your offer is different than mine? (assumed they were similar)

  2. I got this yesterday as well. I’m Spire Elite (via Kimpton IC) so they clearly aren’t just targeting people who they want to try out Kimpton properties as I’m clearly hooked already as an Inner Circle member.

@Michael – Kimpton still has a “last minute rate” page (below) that is a good start for finding the more affordale properties. In all my stays, I’ve only found a few hotels that truly disappointing me.

  3. I’ve been targeted for that one too. I actually had not checked my Accelerate offer, but I’m going to bank a crazy amount of point with just one night at a Kimpton hotel! I’ll get those 10k points, 2000 for staying once, 2400 for paying with cash and points, 1500 for paying with IHG card, and 24.1k for completing those 3 offers which nets me 40k points for a one night stay !!

  4. @michael: Kimpton has a number of properties in Chicago in the $110 range this time of year. I was just there last weekend (in an Indigo) before this offer came out. My daughter recently started at U Chicago so I do get there occasionally and this will definitely incline me towards a Kimpton if the prices are that low when I’m next there.

  5. Stayed at Hotel Monaco in SLC Monday night, received the email last night. Hopefully the stay counts towards the promotion. The fine print says “must be completed between 1 February 2018 and 30 April 2018,” while the email letter says “now until April 30th.”

  6. Agree with the Chicago properties being a good value for the quality of the hotel but note that they are a good value on weekend stays in the winter because they are in the loop, which is typically a ghost town on the weekends and it snowed 2″ last night and got down near zero degrees.

  7. @MPW: All those factors make those hotels ideal for a visit to U Chicago in the winter — there are no (0) hotels near the University but a direct express bus from inside the loop to my daughter’s dorm.

  8. I stay a lot of nights at IHG every year but am only Spire – no ICs. I’ve never stayed at a Kimpton.

I have several IHG properties booked for upcoming stays in Feb and March, including Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo. I received the Kimpton 10k offer email and I will definitely do a little research to see if I can make a one night stay work for me.

My last 3 or 4 Accelerate deals weren’t anything too special, though I did end up getting 50-75% of the bonus points anyway. This time my deal is way too good for me to pass up. 22 nights with a weekend stay will net me 104,000 points. If I add in the Kimpton night it will be 114,000 bonus points, plus an average of 7,000 points/night or so, I’m looking at over 250,000 IHG points in a span of 3 and a half weeks.

  9. Yes, received this targeted promotion yesterday for 10,000 points. Planning to take advantage of it! Going to visit the U.S. again later in March and April.

  10. I’m an IC and have not received an email (yet, I hope). I’m booked at a Kimpton next week, though not sure they’re sharp enough to filter the targeting based on that.

  11. I’ve stayed at Kimptons and InterContinentals about twice a month. My Accelerate was terrible (only 39,000 points total) and I haven’t been offered this bonus either.

  12. Good start to the year here with the Q1 Accelerate… stayed at Kimpton La Peer in LA for most of Jan – 18 nights bagged 135,000 points for the stay, 2,000 for ‘stay once’, 34,000 for ‘stay more earn more’ over 17 nights, 18,000 ‘explore with confidence’, 4,000 ‘stay in Jan’ and 500 Accelerate registration bonus. I’ve also stayed at an Indigo for a week, Holiday Inn for a few days and have trips to three Intercons by the end of Feb which will add 21,600 for ‘live the IC life’ and an extra 24,000 for completing 4 of 5 bonuses. I tipped into Spire just 5 weeks into the year so picked up a 25,000 bonus. Including points from stays, total is almost 320,000 points within two months of the year. If I change my next IC stay to a Kimpton it would be a nice extra.

Question is… I didn’t receive the bonus email but spotted it on the website. Think I’ll still get the points? It said I needed to register but couldn’t see a link.
