Review: Dining At Hotel Romazzino

The food was the highlight of Cala Di Volpe, so I was curious to see how Hotel Romazzino compared. We arrived at the hotel in the early afternoon, so we had lunch shortly after arriving. Typically lunch is supposed to be served at the poolside barbecue restaurant, but due to weather lunch was instead being served at the hotel’s main restaurant, where breakfast and dinner are ordinarily served.

The main restaurant was nicer anyway, in my opinion. There was some indoor seating, though there was no one there.

Instead everyone sat outside on the terrace.

The terrace had nearly the same gorgeous views we had from our room, so it was a beautiful area to just sit and unwind.

As I mentioned in the previous installment, we didn’t book a half board rate here, but instead our one night stay came with a $200 food & beverage credit. The pricing for food at this hotel is the same as at Cala Di Volpe, so the buffet ordinarily costs a (ridiculous) 200EUR, though they have an ongoing 50% off promotion for hotel guests, so the cost is (still a rather ridiculous) 100EUR.

The buffet setup was inside, and as was the case at Cala Di Volpe, it was quite over the top. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves, for the most part.

I have to say that the lunch buffet didn’t impress me nearly as much here as at Cala Di Volpe. Perhaps that’s partly because we were just over food after indulging in over the top meals so many days in a row. The food was still great, so what didn’t I like about it quite as much?

They had pizzas at the buffet, which on the surface I liked since it meant you could just get a couple of small slices, but in practice they were lukewarm, as you’d expect when it’s sitting around; so I guess I do prefer an entire freshly baked truffle pizza 😉
This is very specific, but there was no avocado at the buffet here, while avocado was at the buffet for every meal at Cala Di Volpe; since I consider avocado to be a food group… 😉
They had several hot prepared dishes, and in my opinion if you’re going to have a totally over the top meal, then stuff that should be served warm should be custom made so it’s served hot

They still had made to order fish, etc., though at this point we didn’t try it since we couldn’t stomach the thought of more food (literally).

The following morning we had breakfast, which was included in our Luxury Privileges rate. Breakfast was served at the same restaurant, and the buffet was excellent. Again, I’ll let the pictures mostly speak for themselves.

On top of that you could have eggs prepared however you’d like.

The food at Hotel Romazzino wasn’t quite as over the top as at Cala Di Volpe, but perhaps that was a blessing, because we were totally over the thought of eating at this point in the trip. I like an over the top buffet once in a while, but when you have it every single day it becomes a bit tiring.

I do wish both hotels had a more reasonable a la carte option other than just the snack menu at the bar. Then again, I guess that in order to justify an over the top buffet at a fairly small hotel, they need to get enough people to “buy in.”

Still, overall I loved Hotel Romazzino, and if someone is interested in visiting the Starwood properties in Porto Cervo, I’d split my time between Cala Di Volpe and Hotel Romazzino (with perhaps slightly more time at Cala Di Volpe).

Perhaps lunch wasn't up to the hotel's usual standards because they'd relocated to a non-standard venue?
