Lufthansa Credit Card Offering 100K Bonus Miles

Lufthansa Credit Card Offering 100K Bonus Miles

15

A credit card that I don’t often talk about is currently offering a best-ever welcome bonus, as flagged by Doctor Of Credit. While it’s not for everyone, it has the potential to offer quite a bit of value with a points currency that can be hard to accrue.

The Lufthansa Miles & More World Elite Mastercard issued in the United States is currently offering a bonus of 100,000 miles after spending $3,000 within the first 90 days. The card is issued by Barclays, so standard application restrictions apply.

Is the Lufthansa Miles & More Card worth it?

The Lufthansa Miles & More Card has an $89 annual fee, and offers some perks, including:

  • 2x miles on purchases directly with Lufthansa, and 1x miles on all other purchases
  • Two Lufthansa Business Lounge vouchers annually, which can be used at any Lufthansa Business Lounge globally within 12 months
  • An annual economy companion ticket every year, which must be booked via the Miles & More companion ticket service hotline, at 866-461-5399; note that this has a high minimum fare requirement, so for most travelers this won’t be worth it

Here’s my take on the card:

  • Objectively the card has decent perks for the $89 annual fee; many will value the Lufthansa Business Lounge vouchers at that much, but then again, keep in mind the Amex Platinum also offers access to select Lufthansa Business Lounges
  • The economy companion voucher is of little value in my opinion, given the high minimum fare requirements
  • The key advantage of having Lufthansa Miles & More miles is that you can book Lufthansa first class awards more than 15 days in advance; a one-way first class award from the United States to Europe costs 91,000 miles, plus there are significant fuel surcharges
  • Lufthansa Miles & More doesn’t partner with any of the major transferable points currencies, so it can be hard for those in the US to otherwise top off their account with more miles

Bottom line

The Lufthansa Miles & More Mastercard has a welcome bonus of 100K miles. This is the best offers we’ve seen on the card.

For those who have had just about all other cards, and/or those who have a specific reason they want Miles & More miles, this could be a good opportunity. However, I think the card probably isn’t worth picking up for most people. For example, I’ll be giving this card a pass.

Anyone plan on picking up the Lufthansa Miles & More Card?

I'm having some difficulty reaching Lufthansa regarding the high minimum fare requirement on the companion pass using H, M, Y, or B class. The only classes I see on an economy itinerary are S on the Lufthansa website (regardless of which of the 3 types of economy itineraries is used in a sample booking from LAX-FRA), while Expert flyer appears to have a full range of fare class options available. I filed a contact form, but the auto-reply said it could take weeks for a response, with this card SUB being gone in 11 days. I also reached out on Twitter. I've applied anyways, but am wanting to look more into that ever being viable when sharing about the card with others. The hotline also seems a bit off unless a very long (35 minutes) & silent hold followed by them hanging up on you is typical. Any ideas on finding out more details besides repeatedly calling them?

Would LOVE to go to OktoberFest in 2024---Can I do this with the 100K Bonus for Economy? What are the Mileage SURCHARGES?? Is Lufthansa RIDICULOUS like British Airways?? I want to AVOID any Mileage Surcharges if possible!

Given the general lack of overseas flights, and the recurrence of LH's 55K RT J specials, this could be useful. They are also selling points at very low prices right now. My biggest downside is their crushing taxes of $800 leaving the US. I don't know if they charge that for their own ff program, but they do for many of their partners.

Lufthansa miles and less is awful. Although there can be good value their system does not show anything on partner airlines beyond 2-3 weeks to the future (i.e., trying to book IAH-EZE on UA shows nothing now beyond mid September). And when it finds nothing it erases your search so you have to restart from scratch. Awful awful awful.

Will probably pick this up because we need a flight from Rome to Frankfurt next summer. Current economy price about $200 U.S. so that could save us $400. Lufthansa has frequent non-stop flights on that route. Paying for our cruise would easily meet minimum spend :-)

Does anyone have any data points on the surcharges on business class or economy award flights? I keep reading “high”. Are we talking British Airways Avios high?

I had only experienced with M&M economy award flights on UA metals. They were really straight forward, the miles requirement and $5.60 for each airport.

How good is LH award availability across the Atlantic in business class if booking through LH? Significantly better than the paltry amount that gets released to partners? What are rates and surcharges like?

Please refresh me... how many M&M miles for a one way first class North America to Europe (or vice versa).

    Thanks!

I book through aeroplan for 100K but easier to get those , last time booked 4 days in advance

Are you able to see the LH award availability via their site without having enough miles in your account?

I applied for the Barclays American Airline card. Wow, Barclays makes you jump through many hoops during the application process. I won't deal with them again unless I really am eager to get a card.

Assuming you had the card and a M&M account, what is LH F availability actually like? I know what the dynamic is like at T-14, but is it decently available in advance? For example I'm looking at a trip in May 2024; can I expect to find 2F on some flight to the US, assuming I'm flexible if it's ex-FRA or MUC?

It is still difficult to get a F award with M&M miles in advance. Years ago it was much easier ...

How about for business class? Upper deck of the 747 is still an awesome experience.
