The Air Canada Aeroplan program has just introduced a sale on award tickets. While it’s primarily limited to Air Canada flights within North America, there’s still potentially quite a bit of value to be had.
In this post:
Aeroplan offering up to 25% off award tickets
Air Canada Aeroplan has launched what it’s calling the program’s biggest redemption offer of the year. Aeroplan members can save up to 25% off flight redemptions in North America:
- This is valid for travel in all cabins within North America (including within Canada, and between Canada and the United States, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean)
- You must book between September 15 and September 29, 2023
- You must travel between September 15, 2023, and March 31, 2024
- The pricing displayed on Air Canada’s website reflects the discount
Let me emphasize that this applies exclusively to travel on Air Canada (and not for travel on partner airlines), and the discount is also up to 25%, so in some cases it won’t be that much.
Aeroplan shares some of the markets that are offering the largest percentage discount.
The following domestic routes have among the biggest discounts:
- New Brunswick (YSJ/YFC/YQM) to Canada
- London (YXU) to Canada
- Windsor (YQG) to Canada
- Edmonton (YEG) to Canada (in particular YVR)
- Winnipeg (YWG) to Canada (in particular YVR/YYZ/YUL)
- Regina (YQR) to Canada (in particular YYZ)
- Saskatoon (YXE) to Canada (in particular YYZ)
- Deer Lake (YDF) to Montreal (YUL) & Halifax (YHZ)
- Kelowna (YLW) to Toronto (YYZ)
- Calgary (YYC) to Vancouver (YVR)
The following United States routes have among the biggest discounts:
- Denver (DEN) to Vancouver (YVR)
- Newark (EWR) to Vancouver (YVR)
- Orlando (MCO) to Toronto (YYZ)
- Phoenix (PHX) to Canada (in particular YVR)
- Portland (PDX) to Vancouver (YVR)
The following sun destinations have among the biggest discounts:
- St-Vincent (SVD) to Canada
- Grenada (GND) to Canada
- Martinique (FDF) to Canada
- Monterrey, MX (MTY) to Canada
- Los Cabos, MX (SDJ) to Canada
- Puerto Vallarta, MX (PVR) to Canada
- Liberia, CR (LIR) to Canada
This Aeroplan offer has the potential to be a good deal
I’m a fan of the Air Canada Aeroplan program, though usually I prefer to redeem my Aeroplan points for travel on partner airlines, given the number of partners Aeroplan has, plus the program’s stopover policy.
While Aeroplan awards on partners follow a zone-based pricing system, awards on Air Canada have dynamic pricing, so there’s not as much opportunity to get outsized value. That being said, for situations where Air Canada has released saver award space to partner airlines, you’ll usually find great pricing through Aeroplan as well.
For example, with this award sale I’m seeing business class awards from Fort Lauderdale to Toronto for just 17,900 Aeroplan points one-way, which is quite a good deal.
So while this isn’t an offer everyone should take advantage of, it’s at least worth taking a peek at what’s available if you have any plans to fly Air Canada in the coming months.
There are a variety of ways to earn Aeroplan points. Aeroplan is transfer partners with American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One, and Chase Ultimate Rewards, making the currency pretty easy to acquire. On top of that, in the United States there’s the Aeroplan® Credit Card (review), which is pretty lucrative.
Bottom line
Air Canada Aeroplan is offering an award sale, whereby you can save up to 25% on the cost of an Air Canada award ticket. While I usually prefer to redeem Aeroplan points on partner airlines, there are situations where this could prove to be a good value for any upcoming travel within the Americas.
Do you plan on taking advantage of this Aeroplan award sale?
Can we get two business tickets to Berlin next September ? 2024
On our bucket list air Canada !
ouff thats a crappy list of cities. I remember years back when there was a blanket sale for ALL bookings. Something like 12 years ago. Booked two round trip F tickets YUL-ZRH-NRT on LX. 100k points each ticket. Best deal ever.
The marketing concept "25% off" is surely less compelling, when pricing is dynamic. We're not supposed to know the price any more. So how excited are we supposed to be, when the secret price is "lower"? We didn't know the price in the first place, how motivating is this promo? These guys should makeup their mind. If they wanna promote specific routes, un-dynamize the redemptions on thos routes. "Orlando! 10k per person for everyone, until Thanksgiving! Book now!"
This right here
12 years ago, 120k RT F to Asia with 2 stopovers was the standard chart.
Any idea on what's going on with Amex transfers to Air Canada?
Nothing is going on. It's broken, just like new signups were, all day yesterday.
