New Southwest Rapid Rewards Points Subscription Plan Is A Terrible Deal
I’m excited to offer an incredible opportunity exclusively to OMAAT readers. Here’s the deal — you send me $100 every month for the next 12 months (that’s $1,200, for the mathematically challenged among us), and by the end of 12 months, I’ll give you $805. Maybe even a little bit less, depending on my mood.…

This really borders on fraud. It's essentially just a con taking advantage of people that don't understand what they're doing.
Essentially, you are earning negative interest on a savings account that can only be spent in one place in a currency that can be devalued anytime.
Yet, I guarantee they will have people take them up on this.
@Andrew Clark I agree.
Lucky, are you able to reach out to Southwest PR and get their explanation for this subscription package?
Wow! Thank you for doing the math, cautioning readers, and calling out the airline.
I expect better of Southwest. This reeks of United/Spirit/Frontier et al. Ugh.
All we need now is something in the purchase agreement about forfeiture of all previously granted bonus points if the subscription is terminated early, and we'll be full on predatory lending and/or rent-to-own scheme.
I agree strongly with @andrew clark.
And also I am confused that it isn't April 1.
Because this has to be a joke.
This kind of subscription is fairly common in Brazil, all major national airlines and some credit card loyalty programs operates their own subscription program. Santander had an excellent partnership with Iberia that has now changed, it was possible to buy points from Santander from 0.006 cents to 0.008 cents and transfer it to Iberia in a 1:1 ratio but now Santander changed it to 2:1... There are still some sweet spot left due to the devaluation of Real, mostly involving TAP
You know, some people put their money on the Big 6 or Big 8 at the casino. The identical bet is available with better payout if you know where else to bet at the table, but there's one born every minute. Too bad to see a generally well liked airline so transparently fishing for those suckers.
It upset me that southwest started putting more points into the system when they had too many points out there thus having to devalue.
I guess that at the current high rates, they couldn’t say no to these sales.
Southwest has simply lost its way. They must be drunk from so much drinking from the public trough.
Herb is spinning.....rapidly.
but 50 bucks a month isnt THAT much in relation to what you'd earn using your card for gas, yes, obviously, you're still getting your gas and the points earned is a bonus.
Booking flights at the wanna get away rate, you earn 6 pts per dollar, the low tier subscription is 620 a year, 620 a year gets you 3720 points at 6pts per dollar? again its bonus points but you're still earning 30k a year for 620$
