We stayed at Maison Dalabua (with their fabulously set restaurant - Manda de Lao) which, based on these pictures especially the bathroom!, is much nicer; and their most expensive over water bungalows are cheaper to boot. No wifi issues and better bikes that we took everywhere. Satri looks a little dull from the pictures. I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting LP to look at Maison Dalabua.
I enjoyed your descriptions of Luang Prabang! We stayed at Satri House a few years ago and really liked it. I think we had better luck with our bathroom, as it was much more practical than how yours sounded. We did have one odd thing in the bathroom --- a ceramic statue of Chairman Mao, who stared unblinkingly at my wife as she showered!

Loved Luang Prabang. Recently stayed at Rosewood and it was an absolutely unbelievable experience!
That location would've been a bit too far out of town for my liking. I stayed next to the morning market, everything was easily walking distance to everything around. Overall really liked Luang Prabang, it was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Southeast Asia and the Laotians are much more laid-back than their neighbors.

Thanks for the review. We stayed at 3 Nagas a couple of years ago, which is a sister hotel of the Sofitel. It was magical. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
Looks like a near-miss, overall. Shame, if they can work out those kinks you mentioned, it would be a great place to stay at.
3 Nagas was amazing - I stayed there a few months ago, the bed was fantastic, food was great, and the staff was extraordinary.
I never understood people who go to SE Asia and waste $1k a night where luxury hotels are affordable. Seriously people get top notch properties in Tokyo at that price.
Stayed at delightful Maison Dalabua. Their Manda de Lao restaurant was a great culinary experience, not to mention the UNESCO World Heritage lilyponds amongst which hotel and restaurant are set.
Yep that’s Lao♂️ As some one who has been many times I think once you let go of Western expectations you get into a groove and it’s just magical. When I first went over 15 years ago it was already on the backpackers radar. And I can’t speak to your experience but it’s very easy to stay on quiet streets or just slightly out of the main area to feel like you are in the chill small northern Lao town of yore. I love it there. I tho I rule of thumb in Lao is that the WiFi is always going to be spotty, communication challenging, and things never are going to be button down or efficient - even if you stay in the Aman or the Sofitel. The point as I see it is to go and enjoy the beauty, history, culture and food and chill.
