In September 2021 we learned about MGM’s acquisition of the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. As noted by Miles To Memories, there’s now a major update about whether this hotel will be affiliated with Marriott or Hyatt going forward, based on a Nevada Gaming Board meeting this week.

A few things to consider:
1) Marriott may have thrown some money to MGM to keep affiliation
2) As a property owner, MGM will effectively have hotel affiliations with Hyatt (though M Life), Marriott (Comsopolitan) and even Hilton (Waldorf Astoria). I don’t think MGM owns Waldorf Astoria anymore but it is right next to Comso/Aria within Citycenter. You’d rather have all three loyalty programs funnel into your group of properties if possible.
Some more context here, Marriott was supposed to brand the old Fontainebleau development project, but the original developer bought it back and is now keeping the Fontainebleau branding, so Marriott is now out of that 3,700 room hotel, leaving them back at square one in Las Vegas. Hilton has Resorts World, Hyatt has M Life so probably important for Marriott to keep Cosmo
While just a drop in the bucket compared to the purchase price, its possible that MGM didn't want to have to buy out the management contract. This can amount to millions of dollars, especially with a property as big as The Cosmo. If I had to venture a guess, there's at least 5-10 years left on that. Meaning that MGM would have to pay the management fee for all the remaining years.
Makes me happy! I'm a longtime Titanium Bonvoy and American Plat Pro, I've wanted to switch over to Hyatt, but they don't make it easy. I can't even link my AA/Hyatt until 20 paid nights! Crazy!
Of the more expensive big 3 (Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt), I used to participate in 2 but now only 1 of them. If a property were good, I would stay at it even if it's not in my preferred chain.

I would definitely vote for "less" ... you can earn and redeem points there, but that's about it.
They do already take mgm reward cards in the restaurants in the cosmo but there are not yet room charging to other properties as there is at every other mgm property. Hope that comes soon . Helps rack up hyatt points
