I may be missing the point but how is he Scottish if he's originally from Leeds? Not that I'm beaming with national pride here.....
I'm guessing they knew this guy was harmless by this point and he thought it would be funny to have a photo with his "hijacker". I mean the guy who is supposed to be a terrorist is standing there posing for a selfie. Even the government was just calling this guy an idiot. Sounds like he needs to go to a mental institution. Probably best not to stop when you have a chance to get off a hijacked plane, but the world is full of idiots and this picture apparently has two of them in it.

Highlight of all my CX flights is that I try to take a selfie with each flight attendant. I accumulated about 700 pics in the past two years.
As I commented over on Gary's blog, I look at this as an example of someone who's choosing to deal with a highly stressful situation through humor, which I think is fantastic. I love that he took this picture, as opposed to running around scared.
Maybe MTV should develop an annual show called "The Selfie Awards." Lord knows there's an awards show for just about everything else...
I'd call it classic British stiff upper lip. Why not take the Mickey when you can?
