Looks like a solid product, and the food and menu looks good, but gotta say, all 3 breakfast choices having seafood is a bit much. Also, that lamb dish doesn’t sound like it had much “Oriental Flavors” (but I’m sure was probably a good dish anyway).
Among Southeast Asian airlines, I must say that TG is the best poised to steal some of its long-lost thunder as one of the finest airlines in the region after SQ. That SQ has held so huge of a lead over TG, MH and the others is incredible, despite its hard product being increasingly outdated.
And even when the hard product on TG isn’t amazing, the soft product and Royal Orchid service is bound to be. That was the case on my 3-hour A350 flight from BKK to CGK in January 2026. While my A350 — HS-THQ in the Star Alliance livery — didn’t have the best hard product (2-2-2 with no direct aisle access), everything about the soft product showed why TG is still one of the best in the business, despite earlier struggles.
With such an impeccable soft product, combined with its new A321neos and upcoming 787 order, I don’t see why TG shouldn’t once again come on par with its Star Alliance partner BR, at least in terms of soft product. I do think TG does a much, much better job than BR in branding itself. Still they complement each other nicely, with BR focusing on transpacific, TG specialising in Europe and South Asia and both having a big East Asian routemap.
I’d say that’s about the best wine menu presentation in the air. Sophisticated and helpful at the same time.

The difference in catering between flights ex-BKK and back to BKK is unseen. You won’t have meals of this caliber departing Europe!

Catering is just completely out of touch with the way normal people eat, let alone how Thai locals eat.
I recently flew Thai Tokyo Bangkok on an A350, Business food and service were on a par with Bens experience.
Wow that is an amazing menu.
I appreciate the difference approaches. You always have to feel it out with the crew you get.
And none of us are flying to make friends with them, I hope.
Stereotyping here but..
1. Asian crews are very gracious and provide top notch service, but I never feel a true genuine vibe.
2. European crews are direct and will put you in your place, but if you can crack the surface you will be taken care of.
3. I love the older American crews they know what they are doing and and you can joke around with them.
But that Thai menu wow I want that now!!

TG will never be other Asian carriers but they do fall very flat, so to speak. Warm Champagne and absurdly hot cabin temp are my unpleasant memories from two decades ago.

I do not think TG has the best service. Did paid business class a few times with TG and it was very mediocre. Cabin crew was selective on who they were being nice to. Much better service with CI and CX.

The collection of red wines is one of the best i have seen in recent times apart from United. The food looks really awesome and maybe the best J meal i have seen in the past two years.
Just curious did you put any thought into choosing this itinerary and how you might avoid getting TG'd ?

N17017- Exactly right. Harold is a idot!!! The vast majority of sophisticated business class flyers prefer western meal choices. I for one (and may others) don’t care for fried cat chow mein.

Flew JAL SEA-NRT-BKK return DPS-NRT (Garuda)- YVR (JAL) with a THAI BKK-DPS transfer January-March this year.
BY far the best segment was Thai BKK-DPS. While a short 4 hour flight it was very good but the soft product not as yummy as your flight
Next year maybe will try your route as the Thai segment sounded exempemary.

My problem with Thai 777 business class was the hot temperature of the cabin and lack of personal vents to cool. However the food and service were excellent, so on a day flight and at a competitive price I would probably use them (Emirates before the current war was almost double).
I flew the same flight a couple of months ago and got PJs. I was surprised! They are great, too! Jim Thompson with elephant on breast and the pants are bigger Thai-style pants with elephant pattern. Some of the best PJs I've gotten in the sky.

I just check Aeroplan for 180 days and do not see a SINGLE J award MXP-BKK in either direction. How did you find it? Is always this dry?
Ben booked this before US invaded Venezuala. So that's before the most recent Israel carpet bombing of Iran and kicked off a chain of events that messed up the whole world. Most of the world doesn't have anything to do with Iran or Isarael.
My wife and I haven't flown Thai business class for quite some time. It's definitely an upgrade when you get a lie flat seat versus their old angled business class product that we flew one time from BKK-AKL. Question though, did you do an 11 hour flight to no where and end up landing back in Bangkok or did you actually land in Milan? One of your last paragraphs would say you did an 11 hour flight to no where. Had me confused for a quick second.
I know you very much lean towards the fish entree but would it kill you to pick the meat choice for once? The lamb dish sounded amazing!
It's interesting that for breakfast every dish is seafood or fish. I wouldn't be able to eat any of it due to allergies. Perhaps they should think of that when making the menu? Or is it that the allergies aren't that common in that part of the world? Serious question.
