Odd business seating indeed but seems workable nonetheless. And kudos for having four main dish options in such small plane. And more kudos for including the calories.
Good pasta dishes are rarely high in calories. 300 kcal for caneloni with spinach and feta seems quite alright to me. It's not like those Americans monstrosities made of white flour with tons of cream and crap like bacon etc. 🙂
I've really appreciated this review series because my past impression of RJ was that they were pretty good. They often have award availability around the Middle East, but unless I've got a great cash fare and am earning a ton of LPs, I'm going to be inclined to give them a miss. A shame, really.
Honestly, your recent reviews of RJ really make it sound like they have nothing going for them except for price and (MAYBE for some people) schedule.
Am I missing something? Based on your reviews, I would never look to fly with this carrier.
I think in this case it's pretty clear that serving = what's being served on board. As I wrote below, the value isn't all that unusual.
Then there the story, relayed by VFTW, of the RJ captain feeling the uncontrollable urge to share his views regarding "Palestine" and how Jerusalem is the forever capital of this occupied land, etc. While people are entitled to hold an opinion, doing so in that way smacks of a lack of discipline and professionalism. Which is another thing that RJ has been known for over the past couple of decades.

Haha like how they think you can find Carbonara made with cream, or god forbid Alfredo in Italy.
Guess we now have a better idea why North American carriers have not adopted this seating concept.
Seems as if Embraer has more work to do to refine this design such as privacy screens and tip up seat cushions and slide forward bottom seat cushions for great an accessibility.
It's kind of crazy imo that business class seats can't get certified but this did. Like I can absolutely see the staggered row hindering how fast someone can escape the plane

... based on the experience you had and the photos you posted in this review, i'll fly Saudia A320 anytime to MUC or FRA on about the same flight route.
NO Alc., no problem, but Service, Lounge, offers and quality . . . AMAZING.
Saw RJ award availability often on AA, but i gladly take SV via VS award availability then. connecting time just about the same as RJ in AMM, but flight experience much better i'd say. No matter if BKK-AMM-FRA OR BKK-RUH-FRA OR BKK-JED-FRA, especially as VS Miles with bonus are much easier to earn compared to AA Miles. 😉
The tiny galleys on these regional jets are not designed for a multi course meal service. The plates don’t look like they are meant to stand alone on the tray.
It is very distasteful that you accuse the flight attendant of being lazy without factoring that the airline may be failing to deliver the advertised service on this aircraft. I have no idea where they accommodate all those catering item to begging with. Did you even take a glimpse at the miniature oven they have ? Smh.

It sounds like RJ does sound mediocre from Ben’s report but I agree. It seems like he’s unusually just nitpicking at this point and perhaps looking for another Middle Eastern country to be banned from.
@ Eric -- You're entitled to your take, but I think you're missing the point I'm trying to make. Of course there are huge space constraints on regional jets, I don't deny that. The issue here is more fundamental than that, though -- it's that Royal Jordanian's Europe network is increasingly being operated by regional jets, when it was previously flown by larger jets. This represents a huge downgrade.
@ SJ -- I try to be very detail oriented in my reviews, both positive and negative. That's why they're typically around 4,000 words or so. The issue is that with RJ, there's a lot to nitpick, because there are so many areas for improvement. Is there any point I made that you found to be unreasonable, keeping in mind that I don't claim any one issue is a deal breaker?
Seat looks great to me. If you have window seat you can get up and access isle without sticking your ass in someone’s face.
Skeptical at first I was very positively surprised by the seat. I had a window seat and it felt really private. Huge legroom, a good recline and - that's probably the point of the layout - great shoulder room (and exclusive armrests) with no one directly next to you. I also found that despite the staggered arrangement getting in and out of the seat was really swift. The seat arrangement is not very practical for couples (best option would probably taking two adjacent aisle seats, then you can at least face each other), but perfect for singles. Weaker points are a lack of storage (no cocktail table) and the fact that some parts of the seat don't seem to resist very well to daily use and show signs of wear and tear. All in all I loved the seat!
