I hope they launch highly competitive or demanded routes that Emirates also fly to, rather than those Emirates doesn't. I believe they would share some Emirates' long haul destinations, as both airlines are at the same status.

By the way, this sounds like flydubai scrapped the ideas of ordering A321XLRs, or maybe they're gonna fly both (which I don't think it's gonna happen).

This is real bad news, they'll run themselves out of business. They will not be able to compete with Emirates unfortunately. It is a great airline so hopefully they cancel this order ASAP.

1. Emirates and Fly Dubai aren't interested in being usurped by Qatar, Turkish, Riyadh Air or anyone else in the Middle East (or hubs that compete w/ them)
2. Even though a certain Chicago-based airline CEO told us otherwise, there was no need to order 100 widebodies a year ago because delivery slots were quickly filling up. In fact, there have been hundreds of orders since then for widebodies that will be delivered as soon as 3 years from now.

I expect these 787s will be used on 4-5 hour flights - of which Fly Dubai operates several leaving 12 plus hour flights to EK

It is government owned and their budget is basically limitless.

Even it that was completely true, they would still be in competition. Look at hotels - whether you stay at a JW Marriott or a Fairfield next door they are competitors.

Well that's a bit odd. Maybe we'll see some competition on routes which is good for customers.

You are comparing apples to oranges. FlyDubai and Emirates already cooperate and share the same owner (did you read Ben's post)? Whereas Marriott rarely owns "its" hotels - so the JW Marriott and a Fairfield are likely owned by different entities.

Wouldn't be totally unheard of to fly widebodies on shorthaul flights. Japan comes to mind.

I think it's clear that, like everybody, FlyDubai thinks MSP, ATL, DTW, & SLC are the true next generation Global hubs and is just getting out in front of everyone else. I suspect an announcement for double daily service to all of the above. I also have reason to believe they'll announce 5X weekly service to MEM and RDU. Oddly no love for SEA.

False - Marriott and it subsidiary hotels may be privately operated, however the vast, vast majority (think 90%+) are owned by Marriott Hotels Inc. and then licensed to be operated by a private (much smaller) organization.

You have that exactly backwards. Marriott only owns 20% of their hotels. 70% are franchisees who own and operate and pay Marriott royalties and fees for things like bookings and rewards. Marriott doesn't own the the other 10% of hotels, some REIT generally does and the REIT contracts with Marriott to manage. But more to the point, given the proximity of the 2 locations, no franchisee would agree to a competitor being licensed so close so there is almost certainly some level of co-ownership.
