For the next stop on the trip with my parents, we spent two nights at the 130-room Roomers Baden-Baden, which belongs to Marriott Autograph Collection. I was looking forward to this stay, especially as many OMAAT readers raved about this property, with some saying it’s the best Bonvoy property in Germany.

What a stunning property, loved the suite and that rainfall shower was next level. Thanks for the review Ben!

Sounds great. Why the ½ star deduction?

I believe the complimentary Vodka at the Spa and breakfast is a special thing of the Roomers brand. At least it is also available in Munich. No firsthand experience with Frankfurt.

To my knowledge the hotel group is owned by a Russian. That may explain why they are frequently visited by Russians.

Fantastic review. The hotel looks great, although not a huge fan of the shower/tub situation with regards to privacy. Otherwise looks very nice.

And I agree about renting a car and driving around. Much better than the train if you want to get into more remote areas and smaller towns.

Very nice review!

And I like it also because it's something different than the usual Dubais, Londons etc.

Wrong. Alex Urseanu is born in Bucharest (in Romania, not Russia) and then moved to Israel and then to Berlin and then to Israel etc.

Thank you for this excellent review. This hotel looks fun, quirky and luxurious at the same time.

I made a mental note to visit it on one of my next visits to Germany.

Your review captured this hotel beautifully. I have stayed at this hotel three times, and have several friends that have also stayed here. Besides the overall quality of every element of the hotel, I particularly like that this is a place that makes me smile, because of all it's quirky art work scattered throughout the hotel. It doesn't sound like you visited either of the spas for which Baden Baden is so well known, Caracalla or Friedrichsbad. Both are worth a visit, if you like "taking the waters". The sign at the Roomer's spa is in keeping the policy of nude bathing at Friedrichsbad and the upper level of Caracalla Spa. Baden Baden has a lovely riverside walk through the town, and there are two small museums right off the walk that I'd recommend. Brenner's is quintessential old world, I have no doubt you will find much to enjoy. I stayed on an FHR booking and found the atmosphere at breakfast to be quite "formal". Dinner's in the more casual restaurant were very good.

About 5 years ago I used a 7 day Marriott travel certificate here. Such a great hotel and beautiful area. I worried there wouldn’t be enough to do for a week but it’s a great base to explore. We didn’t have a vehicle but day passes on local transport were cheap. Lots of trails in the area and buses often got us there instead of trains. Another place I found vodka was in the center of the pink flamingos floating in the outdoor area. I’m not ashamed to say I often fished for some after a day of hiking.

The shower/tub area has a mirrored door that you can close in the bedroom so you can't see into the bathroom, thus converting the bathroom into a conventional private space. There's a similar door on the other side of the dresser. If you close both the doors, the entire wall becomes one giant mirror. The bathrooms are the best feature of this hotel. Even the public bathroom in the lobby is quite something. It's like exploring a labyrinthine cave. The bedroom is not as practical as a Courtyard, though. There's no desk or work area, not every room has a kettle, etc.

From the photos you apparently forgot to mention an important point about the location: the hotel is literally next door to the Festspielhaus - built around the old railway station. This theatre hosts a very popular opera festival, and has performances year round. The proximity to the Festspielhaus probably draws many customers to the hotel.

Fun fact: model railroading is very popular in Europe, and a building kit of this exact station used to be one of the top models in the Vollmer catalogue.

Thanks for the review Ben.
On our visits to south Germany and Northern Switzerland, although the people are conservative, we found the sauna to be wide open.

Just a small towel to sit on. Funny but that's the culture.

Dear Ben & all,

while your review covers beautifully many aspects, I would like to add a view things being a local of the Baden-Baden area as there is so much more to see than you mentioned. Next time I highly recommend to add these activities, which are all easily accessible within less than one hour by car:

- wine areas of Durbach, Sasbachwalden and Varnhalt. Easily some of the most beautiful wine areas of the world

- Strassbourg and Colmar: as Baden is only 10km from the France border these 2 cities with their old towns are highly recommended

- eat a Flammkuchen (kind of France pizza) just across the border in Roeschwoog, good to combine with the shopping outlet center in Roppenheim.

- take a walk at the rhine river canals for example in Plittersdorf

- go to Pfalz province, to cities and villages like Deidesheim or Rhodt in that wine region

- if you are with kids head to Europapark Rust, Europe’s biggest fun park

- within Baden-Baden go to the rose garden, the world heritage spa baths, the Roman bath ruins, the Battert mountain with its old castle, the Merkur mountain with the cable car, to the Trinkhalle and the Kurhaus and the opera Festpielhaus and of course one of the worlds most renowned casinos. Go in summer to Ötigheim one of europes biggest open air theatres operated by local people and if you happen to meet the right time go to the horse race events in Iffezheim where you‘ll find yourself in a setting that people only know of from England. In December don’t miss the Christmas market.

Baden-Baden is a small town. But allthough travelling extensively to the most beautiful places in the world, to me it is hard to find a more relaxing and naturally beautiful place than the Baden-Baden area. And there is so much to see and do if you are keen of enjoying nature and good food.
Baden is simply fantastic!

Admittedly, this looks like a nice hotel. At the same time, it is also very generically international. It could be anywhere. There's nothing there that says Baden-Baden or even Germany. It would have been nice to see a more authentic decor and theme to the architecture and interior design.

The Black Forest is where cuckoo clocks are made; I have one which came with all sorts of certificates of authenticity from a shop in Baden-Baden. You didn’t have a cuckoo clock in your room - you appeared to have a weather house though I can’t see it clearly enough. Sunny days a woman in appropriate clothes appears from one side, rainy a man with an umbrella comes out the other side. Usually also a temperature display. Both are worth buying as useful souvenirs of a stay in ‘Baths-Baths’.

My mental note was successful and we stayed at the Roomers Baden-Baden in June for four nights. Overall a very nice and stylish hotel with mostly great service.

The Check-in was smooth, the associate was very fun and helpful explaining the hotel and gave tips for visiting the town. We booked the Luminous rate and got exactly a one category upgrade (no suite or junior suite as others have reported before).

The breakfast was excellent especially for German standards. The service was great too, same for the dinner at the Japanese restaurant.

The spa wasn’t very busy and to my surprise many of the younger German couples weren’t nude (quite uncustomary for Germany).

We did not get our welcome amenity. After one day I reached out to my travel advisor who contacted the hotel - still nothing. My partner was disappointed so I spoke to the concierge. In the end we got a small plate of fruits. Unfortunately the otherwise great hotel fell short here.
