Stayed there twice, the last time was couple of weeks ago when we tried to escape Switzerland’s high prices!
Totally agree on the gym (WTH!) and slow restaurant although we saw few couples here & there. Love the location, staff, and upgrade options at this hotel. On our first stay, we got upgraded to their main suite which was amazing; spacious, nicely decorated and even had a view of the Cathedral.
Breakfast was really good and in a nice setting!
The quoted times to the hotel from SXB from Google Maps are quite interesting. The train option involves a 17 minute walk from the terminal to the train station, and the car option requires no walk at all - even though the cars are parked very closely to the train station. Not to mention the fact that you will take even more time getting your keys, loading the vehicle, ans leaving the parking area.
In reality, the trip by car is likely several minutes longer.
Stayed there for one night in March. Agree on the rooms and staff. My room faced the front of rhe hotel so had a little balcony to step out on, but it was still a little dark. I ate dinner at the lobby restaurant and enjoyed every part of it. It wasn't packed, but people continously came in during my meal. Also thought the cocktails were delicious. I arrived from Paris, so there was about a 2hr train ride and 10-15 walk from the train station. Took the tram to the station the next day and it was more convenient.
Slightly off topic... but which car model did you end up renting for your trip?
I'm guessing that chair to the right of the queen bed converts into a bed by the look of it.
Turndown service is a requirement in France for a hotel to have a 5-star rating. I believe having a restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner is also a requirement. The reality is Strasbourg has lots of Michelin-starred restaurants. So those eating on someone else's money (like all the EU business travelers) are going to other restaurants for their expense account dinner.
What breakfast would Marriott Titanium members have received (vs. a Marriott Luminous booking)?
I believe they stack on top of each other. Be careful, though. At the Ritz-Carlton in Denver, the AmEx FHR credit for breakfast is $35 for two people. Hardly enough for a real breakfast.
Thank you for the detailed review. We happened to just booked this hotel a few weeks ago for our upcoming over night visit in December (for marché de Noël) and now I feel I made a smart choice. As far as the breakfast for Bonvoy Platinum/ Titanium members, do we get complementary full breakfast with hot dish / cold cut? I’ve read some reviews mentioning only basic continental breakfast is offered for Platinum / Titanium as benefit.
Stayed a couple of nights at this hotel (was quite lucky I got upgraded to a suite for the stay) and love it. The breakfast was one of the best I had in Europe. The hotel staffs were friendly and provide great service. I do agree with Ben on the weird part regarding the gym and the chargeable spa just to access the jacuzzi (I also did not take up that).
Strasbourg is really charming and beautiful and worth a visit.
