Review: Las Alcobas Hotel Polanco Mexico City

I love Mexico City and usually stay with friends who live in Polanco. Next time I'd stay in Condesa, and try out the Condesa DF hotel. It's fabulous.

Stayed at Las Alcobas many many times, probably more than 80 nights, before it was an SPG property and loved it. The manager/ owner(?) would be at the property most of the time interacting with guests, and service was impeccable, including great refreshing welcoming drinks and even some amenity products. It was my favorite place to stay of anywhere I go to (AsiaPac, Latam, Europe) even though I don't like DF that much.

Ever since it became an SPG property I find difficulty in booking the property (always full) and the times I have been able to, while the stays have been good, there is not the same attention to detail as before. Also some of the rooms have had some issues lately (noisy floors, non working devices, etc.).

Seems pricey for Mexico City when I've looked at this hotel but it sounds like it's in a safe area. Nice review. Thanks

Obv not really in the spirit of this blog, but there are some wonderful Airbnbs in Mexico DF - we stayed in Roma Sur (I think) in an amazing period property, part of a complex of apartments from ca. 1900 I think. Definitely a gritty-ish neighbourhood compared to Polanco (literally every second shop is some kind of garage/mechanics) but very central.

Really enjoying this TR Tiffany, a great trip down memory lane for a trip I did about 2years ago!

I so very much appreciate Tiffany's style of writing. Tif could make a trip report on a Saturday morning excursion to Walmart seem fascinating.

I love classic hotels such as the Connaught in London or the d'Angleterre in Copenhagen. However, I have always wanted to pop down to Mexico City just to hit the restaurant scene and to experience the Downtown Hotel. It's a super-trendy, design-driven hotel near the Zocalo, which I believe is the historic and gritty heart of Mexico City. I normally would cringe at the idea of staying at such a "millennial" hangout, but the Downtown Hotel just looks so beautiful! And I do enjoy hanging out in neighborhoods with some edge and grit.

human car wash shower? scented toilette paper is a Japanese tradition? bring your own toilette paper? Seriously?

Taking on a previous comment, you would make a trip report on a Saturday morning to Walmart seem fascinating, and would definitely be more in line with your expertise and background.

It's very rustic in some ways reflecting the restored old building it's in, but there are haute luxe touches everywhere. The neighborhood is the best for tourists in the city with lots to do and amenities and authentic Mexican character. Don't miss the Azul Historico restaurant in the hotel building, it's one of the best downtown.

I had a magnificent stay here in October. I loved everything about the hotel, and blown away by the service. I only wish it was on Reforma instead of in Polanco. Polanco is lovely and leafy. But I missed the energy of Reforma. Regardless, this hotel is a class act.

Dulce Patria is a gorgeous restaurant. IMHO way superior then highly rated Biko. Looking forward to that part of the report.

Presidente Masaryk is the street with the most expensive shops in Mexico and plenty of excellent restaurants.
