Actually, on the whole, almost all Westins in Japan (including the new one in Sendai) are lacking in some manner: Be it decor, food or rooms.

What were your impressions of Nagoya?

For people who search on TripAdvisor, and can't figure out why a hotel gets half 1 and 2 reviews, and half 4 and 5 reviews, here is the answer. If you are staying in a "basic" room, you will hate it. If you are able to upgrade to a premium room, you will love it. Ordinary people will take what they can get, Elites will be given more than they expect.

Right now I'm in the Best Western Nagoya. Not luxurious, but it is a really great value. If you're on a budget, I'd strongly recommend it. There's also a really large Hilton here, which now that you're on the HHonors bandwagon could be another good option. 😉

Just a couple of thoughts on the photos.

Hotel Exterior:
- I'm really surprised to see a wooden power pole in this photo since most power and communication cables are in the ground in Japan.
- Really interesting how that bent tree is being propped up in the pond. Was the tree historical in some way and was being preserved as such?

Hotel Bathroom (the cruise ship style):
- Aside from the overall size, I must say I'm actually quite impressed with how much useful functionality the designer seems to have squeezed into this tiny bathroom. Only things that seems to be missing are toilet paper and a wall phone, both of which are present in the suite bathroom.

ASW: Actually, most power cables in Japan are not burried. One would think they should be with all the earthquakes, but no!

There is also the Hilton in Sakae which is right in the middle of things in Nagoya.

@ Moody -- I actually really enjoyed Nagoya. I thought Nagoya Castle was pretty cool, and I was pleasantly surprised by the downtown area. I didn't think it would be so interesting.
