Lufthansa has announced the details of an interesting new lounge concept that should be opening in Frankfurt in April 2020. The Lufthansa Business Lounge near gates C14-15 will be closed from January 13 through early April 2020 due to renovations. During that time, guests are invited to use the nearby Business Lounge by gate C16.…

LH’ Senator Café in Munich was the First of its kind. Air Canada kinda copied the concept.

We tried the Air Canada Cafe last week for the first time and really liked it. Service was very friendly, we loved the grab and go concept, it was mostly empty because most travelers still didn’t know about it and we don’t drink alcohol so having fresh coffee and squeezed juice is preferable for us. The design was very nicely executed, it was a great space. It got us thinking that more airlines should role out specialty lounge concepts at their hubs instead of having many of the same generic type of lounge. What about a fitness/spa lounge where people can work out, or a sleep lounge with small bedrooms etc.

@Lucky, Will this Bistro Lounge have "regular" access policies, as you mentioned in the post? Or, will it be more like the MUC Delights To Go, which (AFAIK) can't be accessed by *A premium cabin pax (only LH, LX, OS) or by non-M&M *G? Since it's an actual lounge, I'm hoping that your take on the access policies is correct...

@Tennen The German blogs say that non-LH Star Gold Flyers in Economy are excluded.

Makes one wonder why Amtrak’s Acela and Metropolitan lounges in major depots do not offer liquor or food products beyond nuts.

Attempting to attract more premium paying passengers in the Northeast Corridor means acknowledging how a private-style club is supposed to operate and succeed in the marketplace.

Most likely gategroup will be catering the food service as they own now LSG in Europe , a subsidiary company of LH. Good luck to them...

Can anybody summarise (for a non-LH flyer) - what F&B was available before and what will be available after?

I'm not sure where it says in the announcement that there would be no access for SA Gold members. As stated, they have access to the Senator lounges, so why wouldn't they be allowed to the grubgrab area instead (the idea of which is partially to declutter existing lounges).

The announcement is admittedly weak, however - "ein leckerer „Grap to eat“-Bereich" alone contains two mistakes.

Dear Ben,

again thanks for the great coverage. Personally I don't like the proliferation of self-service concepts.

This is a first step to a "Lounge minus" concept finally leading to an area with snack / beverage vending machines were the boarding pass respectively customer status is the means of payment.

If Business Lounges are overcrowded the recipee is very simple: Enlarge the footprint.

To summarize it: I only expect cost-cutting.

Best regards

Gerd

The concourse C lounges are the ones where you board straight form the business lounge, or though the business lounge from the SEN lounge. In a sense they have a very captive audience, as they only serve LH long haul flights and going to any other gate requires clearing security twice. I wonder if this new concept is supposed to be an upgrade or downgrade of the amenities.
