Over the past several weeks, Lufthansa has been introducing a special fleet of planes in a 100th anniversary livery. While the first of these planes entered service several weeks ago, I’m very impressed by how quickly five planes have been repainted.

Very impressive their 100th birthday livery wasn't delayed until they turned 103
Too bad they wasted all that paint on disgusting Airbuses, especially that disgusting fat pig.
The livery looks nice on both double deckers as it highlights the crane's head and the diagonal shape on a dark background elevates the silhouette. I think it benefits the A380 more than the 747 as it adds a lot of much needed "lift" to the Whale.
It's a bit crammed on the single deckers.

Oh, and before someone asks if we can just discuss airplanes and travel without bringing politics into it, the answer is "sometimes." 🙂
Nothing "gorgeous" about the design . The white diagram is too "busy" and not-flowing . Best design ever was Southwest's Orca ( killer whale ) , which flowed like a whale through the water .

I think the A380 looks especially good… the crane is so big on the really tall fuselage and it seems to fit the proportions so well.

Now they’ve expanded this to 7 aircraft with 2 A320s (D-AIND and D-AING), I think it would be great to see some other aircraft wear this to mark their whole fleet at the time of the 100th anniversary celebration:

- A330-300
- A340-300
- A340-600
- B747-400
- B777F
- CRJ-900

LH should just make this their standard livery.
I love the HUGE crane on the fuselage and its placement on the fuselage of the different aircraft. The airplane's wings end up acting like the crane's wings!
The first thing that sprang to mind when I saw the 747 and A380 was an orca. Only after remembering what it was supposed to be could I shift my focus and see the crane, but first impression was (and still is) an orca.
Sigh...if only Lufty could be keen and enthusiastic about delivering on the things that matter, instead of....paint. Now what's the latest timeline on those seats again?? BTW: the special livery is nothing special.

I would rather focus on substance than fluff (i.e. 'creativity'). The paint job will come and go. The seats, the customer service, all that substantive stuff that matters is overlooked. But go ahead and enjoy your 'creativity'.
LH's livery has grown on me. Would love to see it on the A350
DL's rather meh. Perhaps it needs some reds, but it seems so after thoughtish... so something is missing ish...
I think you should consider why most airlines are primarily white or use a lot of white in their livery.
I think it looks OK, though definitely not the best special livery we've ever seen. Far from it. I repeat what I said last time you wrote about it; at first glance it looks like someone's started up a new Scottish airline as it resembles the saltire of Scotland as first glance.
Nothing will ever beat the Qantas red Aboriginal Flying art livery on the 747 in the 90s. A work of art in every sense.
