Since my friend was returning on the Lufthansa flight to Seattle and I was returning to Orlando, we got to the airport at around 9AM (even though my flight was only at 1PM). Since we had stayed at the Westin we took a taxi to the First Class Terminal, given that it’s a bit further…

Funny that here you are praising Lufthansa for all its service and amenities (and I don't disagree, it seems that they are top-notch), but I was just ranting on how Lufthansa is stingy and doesn't offer miles for too many of its revenue booking classes.

for reasons that I would define as "fortunate" I am travelling more and more on First class worlwide and the ONE thing that makes me book LX again and again is the fact that you arrive rested. But it's NOT about the lounge, NOT amount the cars, NOT about the seat, NOT about the food, but INSTEAD its all about the fact that you are treated like a seasoned traveller and they leave you alone. You are in a bubble and that is ultimately what you pay for, so for me, flying First is always about relaxation (hence I never saw the point of rushing out into the cold at FRA just to be able to catch a minivan...)

@ fosij -- In the interest of keeping things somewhat brief I decided against it. I think everything that needs to be said about this trip has been said, and it's time to move on to reviewing the next trip. 🙂

An earlier post referred to the LH as stingy and it brings to mind my last experience with them flyiing out of MUC about a year and a half ago. Mostly travel coach with the family, so we had just checked bags and received boarding passes for our next LH flight and connecting UA flight and luggage claim checks. Quite a few documents. I nicely asked the LH agent at the counter for a paper envelope to keep all the passes and documents in. She sternly informed me that they only provide this to first class passengers. I chuckled because I thought she was kidding and even asked if she was but no, she wasnt and then she walked away. I'm still amazed to this day that this happened. I wrote to LH after returning home, however they didn't respond other than to say they received the email. It contrasts pretty strongly with the kindness and generousity of the service experience you had.

Yawn. Another solo F trip on Lufthansa. I think we need to see the net widening. And see how well you can get trips for more than just yourself. Try finding an F trip somewhere exotic for a group of 4 so you can really lay claim to being a mileage expert!

You had mentioned in your previous post that you had 12.5 hrs of sleep the night before at the Westin. Was that not enough? Also, given your 8 hrs of sleep on the plane and the fact of the arrival at 6pm, were you able to even go to sleep at a decent hour that night? Seems like the best strategy to adjust to the time zones was to stay up during the flight and slept when you got home.

So let's say a revenue ticket in LH first class costs $10,000. Sleeping for 8 hours costs you $1,250! Now I'm all for being well rested when traveling, but it seems like for people like us (whose destination is sometimes the flight itself), it can be a waste to sleep on the flight. Really, you can sleep anywhere, but you can't have the experiences of first class anywhere. Just my two cents.

You know there is an S-Bahn station right by the Westin which goes to the airport, yes?

I've often wondered about your fascination with Fanta. But only because I remember Fanta as a kid. To this day, whenever I see a fruity flavored soda, I call it "Fanta" (in the same way that a lot of folks refer to any brand of cola as a "coke").

Using that term usually results in strange looks from people. I've always assumed it was a Texas thing since it seems buried deep into my childhood memories. At about age 10, we moved to Tampa (Go Leto Falcons !!). But now I've stumbled upon a Tampa Fanta blogger.

@ Nina -- We have Fanta, though it's completely different than what they have in Europe. Here's it's overly sweet, unlike the good stuff in Europe.

@ AUSTEX -- Posting it as soon as I get home tomorrow.

@ Papa Smurf -- LOL!

@ peetyrd -- Hah, I had a couple of long weeks prior to that, so "catching up" on sleep wasn't an issue for me. I even got a good night of sleep upon landing!

@ BR -- At the same time I wouldn't pay $1,250/hour to sit in a seat awake watching a movie. Ultimately you can't value premium cabin travel at retail when using miles, or you'll go nuts. In the end I arrived very well rested and comfortably full, as opposed to stuffed as heck, so I'd say it was a good flight. 🙂

@ Bothofus2 - LH is still stingy, just like what lucky mentioned about PJ set not being given for flights Europe to US, I experienced the same thing flying LH F MUC-ORD, I was told it is because it is a day flight. I mean come on, the sun settle down once after take off, and it goes dark all the way to ORD, not to mention it is a 10 hours flight, LH can't afford giving out full PJ set but only PJ top in F ? What kind of crazy rule is that ? Aside from that, that Bogner kit in old F is worse than many airlines C kit ! It only has handcreme but not even lipbalm ! Even UA F kit has a lot more stuff in there !

Seeing all these pretzels and pretzel rolls is really making me want a pretzel! I guess I have to try LH sometime to try out the pretzels, I guess I am as much of a pretzel nut as Lucky.

Flew from fra to dfw last week sitting in 1a . Very comfortable , only the table is too big for a single person, but you can push it back towards the ottoman. food was excelllent. I put the privacy up and slept for most of the flight. I am on oxygen 24/7 and had to carry 20 hrs worth of batteries in my "Go Bag". 1st officer came out before takeoff, looked at my oxygo concentrator and said it was safe to plug-in once we were at altitude. No changing batteries hurraah. Love LH.
